Reviews of Brooklyn Center for Psychotherapy
"I’ve used this place twice over the last several years and both experiences and therapists have been great. I’m shocked to see so many bad reviews because that hasn’t been my experience at all. Ms. Levin was a great therapist, I can’t say enough good things about her. She’s very compassionate and caring. Molly is another great therapist and Julissa and Ashley are both great whenever I reached out via email my needs were always addressed promptly! In case you all don’t hear it enough thank you for all you do!"
"I empathize with the individuals who left 1-star ratings. I too have experienced my share of mishaps during the initial stages of intake. I did have to call multiple times, I did have to follow up on more than one occasion and I did have to reschedule an intake session because I too spoke with someone who had VERY nasty behaviors. Instead of engaging I told her that I wasn’t interested with continuing the process and took the necessary steps to be reassigned. Did it take time? Yes. I’m one year in with my therapist who is truly an amazing individual and even worked with them to have my daughter assigned. That too took sometime but I got the sense that the staff to patient ratio may be off causing some administrative issues but once assigned things go a lot smoother. My therapist is human too, while it’s her job she is human. I don’t expect her to show up for me to 100% every session. Sometimes I get 75% and I’m ok with that because I’m sure she needs a session at the end of the day."
"During the pandemic my sister’s panic attacks came back full strength after having covid, pneumonia in both lungs, one of the people she was around passed away. ( to the point she was in the ER everyday due to the panic attacks) .She call this establishment since she went here 7 /8 years ago. She was assigned a therapist via virtually but realize she knew the therapist from a friend... she then stopped talking to the therapist immediately. The next day my sister Spoke with Ms A ( a supervisor/ manager) when I mean she was unprofessional. How could you have a job working with individuals who are already mentally unstable, going through life with so much and speak to them in such a manor!!! My sister ended up getting meds from her PCP and just tried to remember all the things she learned 7/8 years ago... but now she’s having panic attacks again and she’s lost on where to go because of the unprofessionalism last time. This is why individuals don’t seek help, and why we see so many mentally ill individuals in the streets."
"This place has been life changing to me and my therapist has helped me work through years of issues and she genuinely cares about what's going on. I'm sad to see the negative comment about the waiting period - yes, there is a waitlist (I had to wait a couple of months), but also they are very up front about that. It's a clinic, they can only accept so many new patients and I am unsure why people don't understand that. The waiting period was worth it because not only did I find somewhere with affordable therapy, but have had nothing but a great experience since I've been there more than a year. Even though it can be a little hectic with changes in front desk staff or confusion about appointments (thank God Missy is always there because she is the most wonderful human), it gets resolved. The good and help this place does outweighs the wait period and random moments of disorganization."
"I had an issue with a therapist who would check her phone while I talked and even took out a snack to eat. When I requested to change therapists, I was met with an attitude and unhelpfulness from Ms. Arroyo. I called to tell her what had happened in my sessions and she told me that i would hear from her in a week. I never heard back from this lady. As a MSW student finishing up my degree, I just knew that everything in how it was being handled and the way that she spoke to me (like I was a nuisance) was super inappropriate. I had to call back myself 2 weeks later to check in on what was going on and was told that she would not change me and basically that I was lucky to even have a therapist (even if I felt more damage than good was being done) as the waitlist was long. I told her at that point that I would not be coming back. Not once during any of our encounters did Ms. Arroyo apologize: not for my experience with my therapist nor for dropping the ball and failing to follow up with me for over 2 weeks on an extremely important problem. Just trash. From the top-down, it is clear that each person is not cared about past a dollar sign. I would not recommend, especially for those who are looking for some help and just needs some kindness and compassion. I know asking for help is difficult for some people and seeking help here might make that more difficult, so don't settle on your therapist. Avoid this place and continue to seek the help you deserve from an organization/person that truly cares."
