"This group’s practices have become more and more suspicious since I initially became a patient back in 2019. Apparently one of their only EMDR providers is a therapist who responded “is that it?” when I shared my personal trauma and decided to drop me as a client on my birthday because a personal emergency made me less than 15 minutes late to our scheduled appointment (when I had never been late before). They are constantly changing online telehealth platforms and billing companies which makes it incredibly difficult for patients to keep up with their system. I have been double charged, hit with accumulated bills up to $200+, etc. When I recently inquired about switching providers, I was told that my copay was increasing by over 100% because they were no longer taking my insurance. I questioned how this was the case seeing as though I was never informed about my copay being raised by my insurance or by their office and received a follow up suspiciously confirming that since I was a returning patient they could make an exception and keep my insurance and copay the same. Huh? They also make bizarre policy changes often that are difficult to keep up with and I find that massively irresponsible. As is my legal right, I checked their website for their protocols for requesting documentation and medical forms, went through the process of submitting a release and was told by reception to check in in a week. When I did, I was told that they hadn’t even known that such a documentation request could be made and then asked me for details I was not comfortable giving them. They seemed incredibly unclear as to where the forms would come from (“the man” or “your ex therapist”) and insisted that they were a third party with no access to any patient records. Meanwhile they were the ones who handled the release and who insisted it would be taken care of. One receptionist is so soft spoken you can barely hear a word they are saying and evidently cannot retain a single piece of information you provide, and another is rude and threatened to hang up the phone because I requested to speak with someone else. It is often said that despite the law which allows patients to request their records that offices will intentionally drag their feet because they find said requests to be an inconvenience. Well, that’s certainly true here. I think Cobb Psychotherapy is ironically, wholly unaware and unempathetic to the fact that they are dealing with clients with mental health issues. I feel entirely frustrated with their unorganized practices as a patient and with their reception team’s blatant incompetence and ignorance."
"Cobb, specifically the firms namesake, is one of the most dishonest, selfish, and reckless people I have ever encountered. After 3 years as a patient, I was terminated from the practice over a highly inflated bill that had allegedly been building for months. No one on her team caught it and they wouldn't provide an itemized invoice, only a blank page with a total amount due. When I finally got the transaction ,information I discovered about 50% of the charges were doubles or unauthorized. I confronted Cobb with my findings and sent in the evidence for the dubious charges. Elizabeth Cobb's solution was to terminate me as a patient and mysteriously "forgive" my entire debt. Her ego apparently wouldn't let her admit she was wrong. Being terminated from the practice meant that I would not be able to see my therapist. I had already been banned from seeing him while the issue was being sorted, Because of contractual obligations, I would not be allowed to see him privately until the end of his contract, which wasn't anytime soon. This mental health professional abused her authority and compromised her morals when she dropped me. I was immediately banned from seeing my therapist again and did not have any sort of backup. I effectively begged in an email for her to allow us to see each other. Weeks later and she hasn't responded. I had taken out a high interest payday loan to pay back what I actually owed and see my therapist after over 2 months of being in limbo. She knew how important those sessions were to my mental health. This decision was reckless. She inflicted unnecessary trauma to me. Remember, she's not just the owner. She's also a psychotherapist who chose her ego over the mental health of a colleagues patient. I don't like writing this kind of review, it's not my nature to actively produce negativity. The irreparable harm to me and my mental health should not happen to anyone again. If just one person who's considering Cobb sees this and goes elsewhere, then this post will have meant something."
"Highly Recommend Cobb Psychotherapy. I am a clinician in Illinois and needed a client to be seen that was moving to New York. Cobb had excellent customer service and was able to discuss with me the specialties that they offer to ensure my client was getting the best care during this time of their life. My previous client has reached out to me since and was thankful for the excellent coordination of care that was provided to them and stated that their therapist is very helpful and the treatment is helping. Thank you very much!"
"Elizabeth Cobb is an honest, intelligent and highly skilled therapist. She is trained in many evidence-based approaches as are the therapists in her group practice. Elizabeth and her staff care about their clients while offering a high quality therapy experience. I would recommend Elizabeth and her team without reservation."
"As a group practice provider downtown Manhattan, I highly recommend Cobb Psychotherapy . I refer directly to Elizabeth Cobb, as well as members of her highly skilled and competent team. If you do not know where to start, or which therapist is the best fit, the receptionist will help make the match based on your needs. I recommend them without reservation."
