"Very interesting experience combining food and the chef's Nigerian experience as he grew up while in a warm communal setting. Food was different from what we usually eat but was still good."
"The hype is real. 10/10 and I won’t say more than that bc I’m trying to limit my screen time (new year new me, lols) but if you’re able to snag a reso, DO IT. Alright I’ll leave some pics"
"Delicious authentic food, paired with educational stories. Go here to learn about an unfamiliar cuisine as long as you’re willing to put up with the rest of the experience. Guests sit at a communal table with strangers (an introvert’s worst nightmare). And, too many other things cheapened the experience. Portions were a tad too small for a four-course menu. If you only care about trying flavors, it might not bother you. Even though the public often complains about tasting menus being “food for ants”, fact is I almost always leave full. Paying $100 and needing to find more food elsewhere can leave a bad taste. There needs to be something cheap and filling on the table. Or, 20% bigger portions would be about right. When the restaurant opened, the AC had just been turned on. The dining room was really hot and it took at least fifteen minutes for the room to cool down. It wouldn’t hurt to turn on the AC twenty minutes before opening. To compound the issue, ice was too limited. It was annoying for a BYOB because local alcohol shops barely had chilled drinks; and if you had to travel long distances, whatever cold drinks you brought would become room temp. Overall, a delicious meal, but all these issues made the meal feel overpriced as $100 can get you a more luxurious experience. Once they get these issues fixed, I’d say it’d be properly priced. P.S. Not pictured: pepper stew. Google thinks the image is inappropriate. It’s tender meat and tripe in a softly spicy soup, the heat building up gently without ever being too much."
"Amazing vibes and food. It’s such an intimate experience with Chef Ayo telling you the inspiration behind each dish & due to the fact that there is only one table. It’s a very communal vibe as you eat with strangers. I went by myself as I finally was able to find a reservation & it was an amazing experience. I made friends with some of the other guests and ended up spending the rest of the night hanging out with them. FYI, it’s is BYOB, so I highly recommend grabbing a bottle of wine at the liquor store up the street. The staff is super friendly. Ayo is super cool. And the food is fantastic. Chef Ayo had taken these traditional Nigerian dishes and made them super approachable for a western palate, while maintaining their richness. My favorite was the goat pepper soup—my life is changed. I’m going to have to learn to make it myself. Also, Ayo told us that if you have issues getting a reservation, just email them & they will help get you a spot."
"Felt like a family dinner as everyone is sitting around one giant table. Pretty cozy and warm place. Food rundown is an adventure. All has a spicy touch- so get ready and bring your own drink!"
