"Tyson is the greatest gift we could of have in east orange. The teachers are great. My favorite teachers are Ms. Crunchaw and Ms. Pula. Both of my kids have Ms. Pula and Ms crunchaw. I don't want to move out of the city because of Cicely L Tyson.. they have everything the children need inside the school."
"I've heard that this school is phenomenal for it's specialization in the arts. But this school does not care for the student's mental well being nor their opinions in the classes they are assigned to. My sister goes to this school and she had a history class that the teacher gives the students too much work and she wants everything WRITTEN, as if we are not living in the 21st century. Because of this teacher's requirements, my sister has developed a hand injury that makes it hard for her to write and do other things. Plus, this class puts a lot of pressure on her to get everything in on time or it will affect her grade dramatically. it is bad enough that she has anxiety attacks. This class does not make it any better for her. I believed there are students in her class that are like my sister as well. My sister should not be crying over a history class that affects her mental and her physical health. The teacher and the principal are not understanding of the situation and make her continue as she is. It seems that the faculty looks beyond the mental health of the students and sees them only for their academic attributes. This situation has gotten me very upset! For parents that are considering to send their children there, take in the pros and cons before sending your children there."
"My daughter has attended this school grades 6-12. I don't know what I would have done without the faculty and staff! I am forever grateful for the experience and I'm proud to say my daughter is (will be in less than 3 months) a graduate of this school. It has been an awesome experience."
"My little sister is currently enrolled in this school. Almost everyday she has a problem with the teachers and some of the students. This school does nothing if your child is being bullied or picked on. In fact they join in making the situation far worse. The teachers come off as condescending and rude, and blames the child for everything instead of blaming their teaching methods. Today a student asked the teacher if she thought my sister was pretty. Instead of disengaging from the matter, the teacher simply looked at my sister, and looked at the student who was being rude and started laughing with the students. My sister was nearly in tears about the matter and is far from ugly, which is what the teacher basically said. The teachers name is Mrs. Cisca I believe, and she is employed as a Language Arts teacher at Cicely L. Tyson. We are going to make sure she is held accountable for this. This school is really becoming a skid row, and I am very proud to say that I did not attend. Send your children to Newark Tech, or University High School if you can. CICELY TYSON PERFORMING ARTS SCHOOL IS OVERRATED!"
