Reviews of Refresh Psychotherapy
"I was unable to pursue psychodynamic psychotherapy at Refresh given the interactions that I had with the CEO, Keeley Teemsma English (LCSW). She falsely accused me of threatening one of the therapists (Eli), with whom I had scheduled an intake appointment. She also falsely accused me of reporting to the state that I wanted to cancel my intake appointment, which I had not. Lastly, she failed to apologize - in fact, she doubled down - when I explained to her how she made the aforementioned false accusations. She replied to my explanation citing her policy against abuse, but not demonstrating that I had abused or attempted to abuse any person. Given her leap to conclusions, and failure to investigate, verify, or mediate what she saw as a possible conflict, I have doubts that there is great leadership at Refresh. As the saying goes, "the fish rots from the head down." I would strongly recommend any patient considering Refresh re-consider and seek care elsewhere. - - - Looking at other client's Google reviews, I reach the conclusion that my experience is consistent with that of other clients/patients who interact with Refresh Psychotherapy staff. I am specifically editing my review to add my sincerest sympathies with Julia Doran, in reply to whom a representative of Refresh Psychotherapy shared information on a public platform describing (alleged) events that occurred within the practice. I believe this provides further evidence in support of my opinion that the team at Refresh shows little regard for resolving conflicts in an appropriate manner; even assuming that, unlike in my case, Julia Doran's experience involved the patient actually verbally abusing a Refresh staff member, I do not believe that there is any justified basis on which a psychotherapist or psychotherapy practice should disclose that conflict in a public review reply. As I understand it, psychotherapy practices are like any health or medical office, where even untoward or illegal things (e.g., testing positive for illegal substances) should be kept confidential unless they involve mandatory disclosure (e.g., a report of child abuse to CPS). As such, I have questions about whether such a disclosure in their reply to Julia Doran's review violates HIPAA and other, related laws that protect the patient from having their information (including confirmation of their relationship with a health care provider) published online. That said, I also personally have doubts about whether the term "abuse" - which, as in my email exchanges, described above, the Refresh CEO tends to use very lightly - is being used in an accurate or misleading manner. In conclusion, I am disappointed in the level of professionalism I have experienced and witnessed by members of Refresh, and I am specifically troubled by the conflict resolution style that I have observed. I believe that if there is any profession that should be expert at handling interpersonal conflict, it should be the mental health profession, but it does not appear that Refresh has this expertise. I suppose I can be grateful that I dodged the bullet of becoming their patient by experiencing and observing this prior to intake."
"If you are looking for a therapist who is sympathetic, professional, engaging, and will treat you with the individual care you need- look no further than Jaime at Refresh Psychotherapy. I have been working with Jaime for two years now after struggling to find a therapist I trusted with my trauma. Jaime is trustworthy and kind. What makes Jaime different than others I have worked with is she comes to each session actively prepared to engage in your needs. (And if you don't know what you need, she is prepared for that as well). She encourages me to go at the pace I need to go and sets a safe environment to speak about life's biggest woe's. She gives truly phenomenal guidance and has the perfect balance of professionalism and empathy. While other therapists have made me feel like a couch potato while they continually ask "how do you feel about that.. how do you feel about that.." over and over- Jaime's treatment is active. She engages with you to find your truth, happiness, acceptance, balance. So many gifts given for help with coping. I have made massive strides in my mental health as she has helped me navigate many tough situations. I would continue to write how amazing Jaime is, but this post could quickly become a novel. Thank you Jaime and Refresh Psychotherapy!"
"Finding a therapist with refresh was really easy because of the bio’s that they provide for each therapist. I have been working with Jaime for almost a year and she has helped me a lot in dealing with my anxiety and depression. She is very kind and listens to you and provides helpful feedback. She has been a great therapist and help in my mental health journey."
"They say that it takes trial and error when choosing your therapist and that you’re not always going to like the first one you have. For my first time ever going into something like this I’m so glad that the past few months I genuinely love Emma N as my therapist. She’s extremely considerate of scheduling, always understands things from my perspective and also shows me the bigger picture. I always looks forward to every meeting with her and we always end on a good note until the next time."
