Reviews of Riverside Animal Hospital North
"I have been taking my 4 pets to Riverside Animal Hospital North for almost 10 years. Even with the many staff and administration changes throughout the years within the facility, I continued to bring my pets. On August 27, 2023, I called the Hospital to renew a prescription for my dog who has a chronic coughing issue. The receptionist I spoke with on the phone told me that a nurse would contact me within that day when the prescription was ready. Three days later, I called again and was told that the prescription was not ready. I called again the next day and was told that a manager would have to approve the prescription as it is an Opioid medication (clearly, they never submitted the prescription for approval to begin with). Also note that my dog has been taking this same medication for over a year now to alleviate his cough/wheezing. I waited until the end of the day. I received no call back or follow up, so I decided to show up at the hospital the next day to speak with the vet or someone in charge. I was told by the receptionist that the vet was busy with other clients and would not be able to come out to speak with me and the manager had already left for the day. I explained that my dog needs this medication daily and had only one tablet left from the previous prescription. The nurse gave me a few tablets and a written prescription and told me to have it filled out somewhere else (not an easy thing to do as most pharmacies do not carry this medication) no explanation whatsoever. The entire time, Asaf Babaev, who is the medical director and my pets’ vet, did not come out to speak with me in person, even after I asked to speak with him. At the end of the day, I received a call from a manager who claimed he was unaware of my call to have my dog’s prescription refilled. He apologized but unfortunately it was a bit too late. Taking my pets elsewhere. Riverside Animal Hospital does not return calls. Unfortunately, the fact that Dr. Babaev did not respond to me either by a phone call or email shows that he does not truly care about his furry patients or their owners."
"I’ve been meaning to write this review for a while. I first went to Riverside because they are close to home. I am a first time dog owner who came in with a very young puppy. I found their level of communication and organization to be below what I would expect for caring for essentially an infant - it always seemed like they didn't have time or patience for followups, they didn't respond sometimes for days over their preferred communication method, which is text. And once they even sent me a followup intended for another customer/patient. I also received conflicting advice from their practitioners on how or when I could socialize my puppy before he had all his shots. This was all very early on and within the span of a month or two of care. I've since moved to another practice in the upper west side which has much better and faster customer service. They do so many things I didn't even know to expect - they call me the day after we go in for care to follow up and make sure my pup is ok, have up to date app/technological support to make finding records easy, and are generally just very proactive. Last thing I'll say. When I first brought my pup in, his ears were dirty. Riverside "cleaned" them for me. They still looked pretty dirty to me but I am a first time dog owner and didn't know what to expect. When my new vet saw him soon after, they suggested cleaning his ears. The difference was night and day- now I know what a clean dog ear looks like! Sounds silly, but he's no longer itching and his ears have stayed clean for a month since then. So that's it, nothing dramatic, I just really wasn't impressed. There are a lot of great vets around the UWS. I wouldn't suggest this one."
"I’d give 0/5 stars if I could, but Google doesn't let me. I went to this clinic for the first (and the last) time for a routine evaluation of my senior cat. The vet, Dr. Giavanna Gaymon, explained that we should do a complete senior cat evaluation. This is where the upselling started. I had a 50% discount on the first consultation, but then they started selling me $500-$600 diagnostic evaluation packages. I decided to go with a package in that range as I had never diagnosed my cat before. Now, when the results came out, the vet and the clinic both simultaneously started emailing and calling on the findings and that lifelong prescription medication is required for my cat based on the diagnostic findings. The reason they were constantly reaching out was to hook me to buy the medicines from only them and were curious when can I come pick them up or order it on their portal. I pushed back and first asked for detailed explanations of every finding and what they meant for my cat. The clinic and the vet did provide detailed explanation but gave a prescription for only 25 days and said that I should bring my cat back again for a follow-up diagnosis to see if the medication would need to be adjusted and that I will have to bring my cat every 3 months for the diagnosis for at least the first year, post which I would need to bring my cat every 6 months. Firstly, I doubled down on the fact that I will buy prescription medicine from wherever I want to whether Chewy or other third-party provider, and I will send the clinic an approval request. Secondly, I said I'm not convinced about the rigor and frequency of the diagnosis. And, hence, I am going to get a second opinion from another doctor to cross-examine the findings. I found a really good vet clinic that did a limited diagnosis of her condition at half the price, had a low consultation fee, said that they would give a prescription and refills for an entire year, that I can buy from any other pharmacy of my choice as the medicine would be expensive at their clinic, and that I only need to bring my cat in for evaluation once a year."
"My first time going to this vet hospital. Was desperately attempting to find a vet office that's open on Sunday's not far from me since MOST vets are closed on Sunday's. Thankfully they were open. However, I heard from the receptionist that starting November they too will be closed on Sunday's. They, from the receptionist to the vet tech, nurse and doctor on duty today...were so pleasant, kind and patient. The plus part for me is that they take Care Credit so that I can pay off the bill in increments before the expiration date. Very cute Lobby with all the beautiful portraits of furbabies, a dispenser for dog treats and one for human treats. It was a welcoming environment. A place I would return to if and when I cannot get to my beloveds Primary vet in NJ."
"Sometime before 7PM today, this business illegally placed bagged trash on the sidewalk. Under NYC law, businesses must place trash in secure, lidded containers or wait until after 8PM to put trash out. This recurrent problem persists despite polite requests from a group of us neighbors concerned about the rat problem on the block. We will now seek enforcement action from DSNY (escalating fines up to $300 per violation)."
