Reviews of Hook Mountain State Park
"Really beautiful, dog friendly hiking trails!"
"Lots of variety here... on a nice 7 mile round-trip hike, you can climb to the top of Hook Mountain, follow the trail along the ridge heading North until it ends where you can check out Rockland Lake, then return on the flat gravel trail (that is popular for mountain biking & running) beneath the ridge alongside the river. Also at Rockland Lake, there is a big grass picnic area with tables / grills, and a paved path that I believe surrounds the entire lake (approx 3 miles around) which looks great for biking, roller skating or skateboarding. It looks like there would be some good fishing opportunities along the Hudson and at Rockland Lake too, though I haven't tried these locations yet."
"Great view, great moderate hike! Peaceful. Lots of little bugs but not terrible. 5.8miles. We saw a few calves too! Don’t just stare at the ground when hiking lol."
"Just discovered this state park. We hiked the newly created white trail and then the green trail to get to the mountain peak. The new trail is well made for sure and the views on the top of the mountain of the Hudson is spectacular. These trails seem better maintained than that in the Palisade State Park. The views are as gorgeous as Palisades. This is also a rare place where you can hike 700 feet elevation within an hour drive from Manhattan for a hike of less than 3.5 miles. The path has nice shades and we were not attacked by bugs. In a few spots, the grass was overgrown a bit and we did tick checks right after. No ticks thankfully. Come out to enjoy nature."
"Amazing views of Hudson river. Trail comprising of Nyack Beach and Hook Mountain loop is definitely more than moderate hike and takes around two and half hours to complete, but totally worth it. Parking is now open and charged $8. Barring some areas trail is well marked, but all trail app is handy at those places."
