"My experience with Agota is that she struck me as extremely dismissive, self-important and the perfect embodiment of a sophomoric, elitist attitude. She had no concern about timeliness (I’ve had shorter waits in doctor’s offices), nor did she exhibit any care about my son’s scoliosis, or ways for him to safely train. I initially wasn’t going to post a review, but after further thought it occurred to me it’s more important to be protective of the parents and their childrens’ interest over Agota’s feelings. It was a deflating experience that has robbed our family of any further interest in fencing."
"There are some nice people who fence here and the venue is really nice to fence at. However what isn't nice is the directors, especially if you are fencing against the people who train there. On three occasions the director robbed me of touches that I should have gotten against two of their fencers. The first incident occurred when I was infighting this woman (who attends the club) and was able to hit the backside of her leg. However the director and woman both told me that my weapon had hit the floor first then the woman. This is complete nonsense since all the strips are grounded. The same thing happened to another fencer from another club fencing the same woman with the same director. Everyone watching the fencer said that he had hit but the same excuse I received was used again. The second time it happened was when I was fencing a fencer from their club in the second round. I had lunged and was able to score a single light, however the director did not give me the point and left the score as it was. When I had protested that she did not change the score, she insisted that the score was correct even though it was blatantly not. My father watching the bout also happened to witness what had happened and also protested, however the director insisted the score was right. A father of a fencer who also attends the club agreed with the director even though he had clearly saw I had touched and shook his head at me as I looked at him. The last time it happened to me was when the fencer fleshed at me and I was able to hit him before he went completely past me. The director also threw out that touch. I would go on to lose the bout 12-13 in overtime and probably could have won the bout and moved on had 2 of my touches not been thrown out by atrocious directing. Also when I was fencing both 15 touch bouts, the director seemed to abandon the rule of stopping time after a halt is called. Every time a halt was called, the clock still ran, meaning precious time was being squandered. This kind of blatant, ignorant, and biased directing is simply unacceptable and just plain wrong and ruins the fun of the sport. Trained directors should always follow and uphold the written rules of fencing no matter how badly the students from the same club are doing. Directing like this left me a negative opinion of the club and made me contemplate never returning to the club for another tournament again. For those thinking of competing at this club in the future, consider what has been written here and proceed with caution when fencing the students of Atlantic Fencing in their home territory."
