"My 6 year old son has been learning karate for 3 years with Essex Shukokai. The instructors make classes enjoyable, while at the same time provide age- and child- appropriate constructive feedback. The dojo is inclusive, helps each student focus on valuable lessons like self-mastery, confidence, patience, to name a few, and creates a strong sense of community. At a recent tournament, I observed some truly wonderful moments. An student comforted her competitor who was visibility sad that she forgot the steps of her kata (form movements). I could hear parents cheer on kids other than their own in the different competitions. A lot of the younger kids cheered their classmates on. And at times, even lost graciously to their competitors, and even competitors who are their friends. The older students, who help with the classes in the dojo, talked to the younger kids to encourage them. You can most definitely see all the lessons they're learning at the dojo when they are out in the real world. So proud that we are part of a great little community!"
