"We came into meet the schools director, Ms. Felenzcak in August. We gave full disclosure and she understood prior to our appointment that we are conducting an interview of her school and their karate program. We were researching several schools in our area as my daughter completed her first degree black belt training at a different dojo which she attended for 11 years and had become been very unhappy in her in last years year but very much wanted to continue practicing martial arts and it was important for her to finish her goal by obtaining her first degree black belt at 16/17 years old. When discussing our daughters karate experience, Ms Felenzcak we had come to find out that she also trained with the same Sensei which was such an unbelievable blessing in that she was going to continue training in the same Isshinryu system she had been learning over the past 11 years. Now from my perspective - we walked in with a long list of concerns that we were not looking to duplicate going from one dojo to a completely different dojo. This is how come we are “interviewed” dojo’s. While listening to Ms Felenzcak all I could think about was why I didn’t do this move sooner. They have locations in Randolph, Rockaway and Parsippany. We live in Randolph and Sophia has chosen to want to work under Ms Felenzcak who generally teaches in Rockaway. Our daughter chose this location because Ms Felenzcak humbling discussions of her personal journey as a 9th degree black belt is who Sophia wants as her mentor and role model. I’d also like to include that her first day at her new dojo home had its current students all welcoming my daughter with open arms which my child couldn’t believe how nice everyone was too her. We are blessed to be able to belong to this dojo for our last year in NJ (we relocate when she graduates HS) It’s shown Sophia that not all dojo’s are run the same way and because of this - I know Sophia will continue her karate journey for many many years too come."
