Reviews of Keens Steakhouse
"Honestly the best steak of my life! I ordered the Prime T-Bone Steak medium and oh boy, WOW. The meat was perfectly cooked, soo tender, juicy, huge, had an amazing crust outside, seasoned with big salt flakes, and fat that melted in your mouth. Super high quality meat. I miss this steak so much and I'm crying as I'm writing this review reliving the memories of this beautiful steak. I paired mine with a Manhattan to drink which was fantastic. My friend got the Prime Rib of Beef, Kings Cut medium and got it charred outside. Absolutely amazing too. Tender, juicy, huge, and the char on the outside really elevated it without compromising the inside. They also serve some dinner rolls with butter and a small assortment of carrots, celery, olives, and dip to eat before your meal. On top of the meats, the atmosphere in this place is incredible! It is dimly lit, old school, vintage, woodsy, and filled with tobacco pipes used by historical figures which creates such a cool ambiance. We walked in without a reservation at 5pm sharp on a Saturday and were able to get a table for two instantly. We either got lucky or just make sure to get there at open. Definitely make reservations for dinner. If you're coming to visit New York, go here. Splurge a little, but it'll be so worth it!"
"My brother in law and I were in the city to celebrate and enjoy a basketball game. But first we needed a good meal…and man did we get one. Keens is a top notch steak house that just does the entire dinning experience right. I started off the night with a lobster bisque soup which was huge, tasty and filled with lobster. Next we order the chateaubriand for two with a side of creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly and came with three different types of sauce. The mushroom sauce and butter were my two favorite. The mashed potatoes were great and the creamed spinach was exactly what I was hoping for. Unfortunately I had no room for dessert so the meal ended there. Great service, great food and a great time. Will be back!"
"A true old school New York dining experience with an ambience that is second to none. It's not perfect, but definitely a must visit. We celebrated my wife's birthday here on a random Tuesday in January and the restaurant was bustling and completely packed. Hence, please be sure to book your table well in advance. We were seated promptly in the dining room adjacent to the entrance. What atmosphere! One is truly taken back by the incredible decor of pipes on the ceiling and the most perfect lighting. The tables are very close to each other, but it was not really a problem. Our server was nice and efficient, but the service did seem a bit rushed. The pace of the dinner was very fast, in fact this was the fastest service I have experienced, ever! Our drinks, cocktails and appetizer were brought like within one minute of the order. This was almost too fast to truly take in the experience. The food was very good to outstanding. The appetizer of thick cut bacon was a but thick and a but too salty for our liking. The mutton chop was an interesting cut, but a bit too much bone and fat for me. However, the mint jelly was a very nice addition. The star of the evening was definitely the New York strip sirloin. Massive, juicy and perfectly cooked. On par with some of the best steak we ever tasted. The side dishes and New York cheesecake were very average, even a bit of a letdown. I know we had a better slice of cheesecake in Columbus. Overall, this is still a New York institution that deserves a visit. Pricey, but you are in New York city. I would rate it 4.5 out of 5."
"Keens Steakhouse was on my MUST GO! restaurant list for long time. Since my friend suggested, I decided to spend my birthday dinner at the place. The restaurant was known for old famous in NYC. I have mixed feelings about the place to be honest, if I came to this restaurant ten years ago, I would be more impressed and excited. As a New Yorker who love trying new places and food, I have to say with lots of competition of industry. Our server was professional and gave us an excellent service. I'm not crazy about the tables are close to each other too much. Somehow, I feel like I'm in time square with full of tourist (please don't get offended nothing wrong but it just makes me feel if I'm in the right place) Food was good and steak was great as advertised. - Raws bar/ dozen of Clams: compare to all clams I had before in my life, I think this dish just not as good as I expected. The smell is too strong and has some sand in it. When I spend extra in the restaurant, I expect a better quality than this. - T-Bone was great: can't complain and the portion is big! - Surf & Turf: streamed Lobster and Fillet Mignon is wonderful. - Side dish are a bit over price, string beans, fries, boiled asparagus. - Dessert is okay, maybe is not just my style. Overall, it is good steakhouse and will be wonderful for visitor and family."
"We sat at the bar and still were hoping to order a regular menu as that is possible in most restaurants. We were told only bar food was orderable. Then later, I saw other groups of people ordering the regular menus in the bar. Not sure what changed in 5 minutes. Why others were allowed while we were not? Prime rib was okay: the meat part was tender, but there were too many fat and stringy parts (you can see the picture- almost half of the meat was fat/stringy part). Lobster was okay. A bit too cold, but the horse radish sauce was good. The portion was pretty small. The ginger ale was good. For the two of us, the whole meal together cost about $100. Considering the price, the lobster salad was tiny (not to mention the level of service). Not sure if I would revisit it."
