"Awful experience and a scam company. Also - they are owned by Choice. My fridge stopped working. They sent an electrician out who said it was the start relay and he would need to order the piece and install it later during the week. When the electrician came back a few days later, the start relay didn’t resolve the issue and he said it was a burnt pin on the control board that could be from wear and tear or a power surge, but he can’t confirm either one 100%. HWA decided to claim it as a power surge, (EVEN THOUGH the electrician said he can’t say with confidence it’s due to power surge) and refused to replace the control board since power surges aren’t covered under the policy. They gave me the option to appeal the decision, and said I could get a second opinion from an outside electrician. I hired my own electrician to come out and take a look and he said the same thing the first electrician said - pin is burnt but there is no way you can say it is from a power surge. I submitted the documents and they still denied my claim. 500+ on this warranty for a useless, shameful home insurance policy. DO NOT RECOMMEND."
"The WORST Home Warranty in America. I recently dealt with their case manager Taurean, he was just rude and careless on the phone. Wouldn't even listen to the AC Tech who was letting him know the damage on my AC unit was caused by wear and tear and offered to provide photos. He is just trained to read their script and deny everything! They will find a reason to deny each claim and can't provide you with a valid reason why. If one part breaks, they will say it was because of another part failing and then say it was not wear and tear because the first part failed. This company is a scam. Do not waste your money."
"If I could give this company less than 1 star I would. My home has been without heat since Dec. Home Warranty of America has attempted to send out 3 companies (1 didn't even bother to show up). The 2 that did show up both had the same diagnosis of the problem. THE FURNACE NEEDS REPLACING. Both sent photos and write ups as to what the problem was and that it was a potential fire and carbon monoxide danger to my family and the furnace needed to be shut off. It is now the end of January and they are still delaying replacing the issue. I've called constantly and they give the same spill. I am now taking steps to file legal actions against this company. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY"
"I cannot emphasize enough to not work with this company. I could share all the experiences everyone else already has about how long it takes to get anywhere and when you do they stick you with the bill even though it should've been covered. There's always some excuse. Literally had to live at my in laws when my furnace went out during a week of weather in the negatives in Idaho while waiting on them and when it was done, they said that a part inside the heater had failed causing the rest of the heater to fail, but the rest of the heater failing was "secondary" damages since it was one part that failed first. .....uh....duh.... that's how machines work-they need all their parts to work. They wouldn't even give us the amount it would have costed to replace that initial part. We got $300 for a totaled furnace. Well, we gave up and didn't use them again until we remembered it was about to expire and decided to try again. One technician showed up, told us what was wrong and said he knew the warranty company wouldn't pay for it, so he didn't charge us for the visit. Anyway, nothing ever worked out. I've received multiple sales calls. I'm on call for work, so I still have to answer if I don't recognize a number. I've told them I'm not interested because I haven't seen any value from it. Today, I started telling the person that, and he hung up on me! Look, I'm not the one calling you wasting your time, and I'm polite enough not to hang up on you, and I wasn't even getting upset with you for calling yet again, so why can't you give me the courtesy of saying "thank you have a nice day" or at least "goodbye". I run a customer service department, and I would be appalled to have any of my reps or my company as a whole deliver the kind of "service" we've received from them. EDIT: I'd just like to add that if I had an archenemy that I wanted to annoy, I'd sign them up for info from these guys. I get multiple calls a day from them even after our policy has ended. Anyone know how to get them to stop??"
"We got this free with our home purchase for 1 year, then paid for 3 more years. Wouldn't recommend. Difficult to get someone to you + $100~ fee. + cost of anything outside of the repair (pipes, fittings, etc). They go with the lowest bidder. A water heater replaced by HWA had to be replaced 2 years later because someone didn't check a pressure valve of incoming water and it degraded (paid out of pocket because why would I trust HWA again to replace a water heater when my 1st replacement took 3-4 weeks of calling 3-4 times a week to get someone to replace it). You will save more by saving the cost of HWA and using it to service your appliances and pay out of pocket for replacements. They had someone look at my 15yr old AC unit and tell me it wasn't cooling the house because it was dirty. He'd clean it for $3,000 though. I called and canceled HWA and paid for a new AC unit/furnace out of pocket rather than deal with them. Imagine opting to pay $10,000 rather than the $100 fee for someone to tell me it's probably just dirty, so I could have warm/cold air in my home. I called and canceled, they said the contractor told them my AC unit was fine and didn't recommend anything for it. Not worth the $60+ per month and increasing prices + fee. More cost effective to just pay out of pocket."
