"Nice Golf Course, very challenging, not for beginners, staff could use some cleansing. I've been here twice. First time I was annoyed by a smug employee before I even Got my clubs on the cart. This recent time I was paired with two young men who although they were terrible at golf, they kept things moving at a good pace. As I was making my third par in a row and my 6th par of the front 9 on the 8th hole, a ranger was watching and asked us if we were playing 9 or 18. The two young men were playing 9 and my partner and I were playing 18. He then informed us we were 8 minutes behind and had to "pick it up". I found this strange because I knew we were right on top of the group in front of us. And of course when I got to the next tee box I had to wait. Not sure what I'm supposed to do about being 8 minutes behind when they paired me with two people who I don't know and aren't very good and we were keeping up with the group in front of us anyway. And is 8 minutes really worth mentioning anyway. I would like to mention that the younger folks working there seem very pleasant and friendly. The cart girl, grill girl at the turn and the young man who cleaned our clubs at end of the round were great. Everyone else I've run into could use some training to improve their customer interaction skills"
"Awesome course. Starter was a great guy. You can tell it gets played a bit but its well taken care of. Not gonna find a better public option on the jersey shore. Worth the money.. I'll be back."
"Crab grass, hole liners not sunken into the ground, nonexistent rough. This place reeks of neglect despite the $115 greens fee and constant play. The greens are well kept but average at best. I’ve seen this place go downhill over the past few years. Do yourself a favor, play somewhere else until they produce a $115 product or lower their greens fee."
"I wouldn't play Shore Gate if they pay me to play. The fairways are completely destroyed. Rough is all crabgrass. My picture doesn't even do it justice. It is WAYYYYY WORSE!!! I used to enjoy playing here but the management absolutely let this place go. By the way, your bag boy (or bag man) is the rudest person I have ever met. How do you allow someone like that to work in your golf club? Damn shame that this place went the way it did."
"Shore Gate is easily one of the nicest courses near the Jersey shore. Featuring undulating greens and fairways, with a terrific and interesting layout, this course will keep you coming back. Although it is not in eye-popping condition as it had been in the past years, it is still a sight to behold. When it is in top shape, you’ll feel like you walked into the TV during the PGA tour. Plenty of tee boxes (some very far back) maintain the championship course feel. The risk-reward design presents you with constant gambles, with deep sand traps galore. One hole is half sand trap. Some traps have the good sand, but some look like the old Sand Barrens course. Even though it is a shore course, you’ll survive without bug spray, and won’t get punished by the afternoon bay breeze. Excellent practice facilities also. A MUST play."
