Reviews of Laurel Hill Apartments
"I found Laurel Hill by accident while looking for an apartment in 1976. I was so taken by the place, I signed a rental agreement on the spot, and looking back, I'm not even sure I checked out the apartment I was renting. The way I remember it, the rent was around $200/mo., maybe less, with heat and hot water included. When I finally moved out in 1984, the rent was $247/mo. Bill Ozmanski was the Maintenance man and his Mother rented the apartments. Bill was so cool. He had built an area where he kept and cared for many different animals. A lot of birds, if I remember correctly. He also had deer. It was not uncommon to come home at night to find a peacock sitting on the railing outside your door. If you couldn't afford a rent increase Bill would skip it for that year. Same with the pool. The pool was an extra fee, but Bill would look the other way if you hadn't paid for the use of the pool. Since I was in my early 20's when I lived there, I'm sure I am looking at my experiences through rose colored glasses, but in a way, I wish I could go back to that time and maybe spend a week or two in my old apartment. As a final note, yes there was some downside to living inside a hill. The biggest downside was the entrance. If you have lived there in the winter, you are taking your life in your hands driving up or down the entrance driveway. I had my car towed one time because I couldn't get up the driveway, and had to park on the shoulder of Chews Landing Rd. By the time I moved from there, Laurel Hill had been sold to a company that owned a lot of the apartment complexes in the area. Needless to say, I did not get my deposit back. That was also the case with our neighbors who were also long term renters. Regardless, I have mostly fond memories of my time there, and am glad to see it's still going strong after all these years."
"My husband and I moved here 4 years ago, and love it. I'm puzzled by other reviews, as we've never had an issue here. The washer and dryer are full-size, not small. They aren't laundromat size, but it would be ridiculous to expect that. Maintenance is fantastic. We had a problem with our dishwasher, and Dominic came out the same day. It needed to be replaced, and we had a brand new unit within 2 days. They use an outside service on the AC. We had an issue when we first moved in, and it took some time to fix. But the gentleman showed up within a couple of days, and had to order parts. Not his fault, nor the complex's. They routinely change the filters(2x a year) on the heat/AC unit, but give you advance notice. Not everyone does that, despite it seeming common sense. I've never had an issue with Lorraine, who manages both here and Chadwick Village. She's on-site at CV, but you can easily reach her and she responds within 24 hours. Lots of older people live here, and not a lot of kids. Keep that in mind if you have kids. There is no playground or anything. With Covid, it makes it tough on the few that are here. It's incredibly quiet, which is a blessing. Our noisiest neighbors are the occasional geese. My only issue is that rent goes up around $30 every year. Sadly, at some point, we'll be priced out. And I'd rather not leave."
"I have lived here for just under three months and I am far from impressed by the customer service that I have received so far. The apartment is otherwise nice, so its a shame, really. The "on site property manager" is not located on site. The leasing office on site at Laurel Hill is, for some reason, empty. To get anything fixed or resolve any issue, you need to drive to a different apartment complex to see your "on site" property manager. This "on site" manager failed to return multiple phone calls from me until I got the corporate office involved. She is very nice, but when I called regarding an emergency she did nothing. When I called during my first week with a maintenance request, it was not even acknowledged (and it certainly has not been resolved). Best to get in contact with the property manager in the corporate office if you need something done. However, the corporate office is similarly difficult to get a hold of. They do not give notice when they are going to be closed (they claim this is because they are only off for major holidays, however I cannot figure out which major holiday was being observed on 12/20 when I called during business hours and couldn't get a hold of anyone). If they are closed, you can select the options to leave a message in their voicemail box, but you are unable to actually leave a message. It rings and rings and then hangs up on you. If you go to their website to send an email about whatever problem you are encountering, the email goes to the IT person and it is never followed up on. I let them know about this issue via email, but my property manager seemed shocked by this information when I brought it up during our phone conversation today. It seems that even if an email is received, that does not mean that it has been read. The "on site property" manager is supposed to notify residents when she is going to be out of the office (according to my phone call with the corporate office today). Her idea of notice is to tape a note onto the door of her office. Again, this office is NOT located on site. To be notified that she is unavailable, I need to drive to a different apartment complex and walk up to the office. This should be done via email like every other apartment I've ever lived in. To give no notice, especially before an extended holiday, is unacceptable. Two weeks after moving in, 1/2 of the electricity stopped working in my apartment. I had no power in my bathroom, my vanity area, my kitchen or my dining room. It was after hours, so I called the emergency number. No one answered. I called more than once, called the corporate office, called the on site office, left messages, and it was still more than 2 hours until someone responded. They didn't call ahead, they just knocked on my door at 10pm after I had given up for the night and gone to bed. It still took them until the next day to fix the problem. Turns out, I cannot have my dining room light on and use a hair dryer in the back bathroom at the same time or it blows a phase. My on site manager claims I'm using too much electricity. According to AC Electric, my energy consumption is "average" as compared to similar homes in the area, and so I don't understand why I would be having these sorts of issues with my wiring. It took 3 weeks and multiple phone calls for someone to finally figure out that the reason why I am unable to pay my rent online is because someone spelled my name wrong when entering my information. I called about this issue 4 separate times and sent an email. Accidents happen, but for this issue to take weeks to resolve is absurd. Something better change as it relates to my customer service experience or I will not be renewing my lease. Damn shame, it's a cute little place that's reasonably priced."
"We moved in a couple months ago and we love it!!! It is small, but so is the price. It's clean, quiet, well maintained, washer and dryer with central air, exactly what we were looking for! Office and maintenance are really nice to work with. I highly recommend Laurel Hill aparments"
