Reviews of Jewish Family Service and Children's Center of Clifton-Passaic
"I called in looking for a referral and the lady on the phone was so kind and she gave me all the information I requested an even more."
"They do have a very long wait list, and I actually have not seen a therapist yet. However, I wanted to leave a review now because of how positive my experiences have been thus far when most facilities I've dealt with seem to make it as difficult as possible to speak to someone, or they just don't seem to care. Every person at JFS whom I interacted with thus far, from the receptionist to the intake coordinators to one of the psychologists - all made me feel valued, listened carefully (when I spoke to them directly) and did what they could to make getting on the wait list (and filling out forms) as easy as possible. When (due to my issues for which I'm seeking help) I acted in a way that made it seem like I wouldn't commit to therapy (after being matched with a psychologist only a month after being placed on the waiting list), the intake coordinator was good enough to take me back and put me back on the wait list - but not without ensuring that I would commit to ongoing therapy, which was the right thing for her to do. It shows that while she did want to accommodate me, she was also committed to ensuring all others on the wait list were treated fairly, and that the staff wouldn't go out of their way to enable me if I flake again. Requiring me to be accountable while still making me feel valued and respected takes skill. It's a much needed ability to care that's sadly lacking in a lot of mental health care facilities. I'm looking forward to my therapy sessions at JFS and hope to update my review once they start. UPDATE: I was matched with a therapist within days of being put back on the wait list. I've met with her only once, and I know there can be ups and downs over the entire course of therapy. But I've spoken to enough therapists in the past to know that my therapist at JFS is quality and really listens and cares. I was told in advance what to expect, including there's a possibility this may not be a permanent match, which is ok - I trust that decisions made by JFS are for the best. I'm impressed by the amount of professionalism I've seen in everyone I've interacted with at JFS. At first I was hesitant seeing a therapist who was part of a group instead of one in private practice. But for myself I'm finding that a group is more convenient. Therapists can easily refer me to others within the group (such as psychologists or psychiatrists if needed), which should be easier than having to go through someone in a separate practice or group and dealing with different billing and/or records procedures. I'm looking forward very much to continue working with the JFS staff."
"This Place Truely Cares about your Mental Health. There are a Great Group of Staff members who make sure your Disorder of Disability is resolved. The Therapists listen to you and do a Great job coming up with a way to deal with the problem or problems you have . I would give this a 5 star; because they have helped me cope better with my emotions and feeling towards my parents."
"I am continually amazed at the dedication and selflessness of the JFS staff. I can not image how our community would function with out them."
"JFS Clifton serves the community in so many ways that are both public and behind the scenes. In addition to the Sequoia Club for older people, there's a food pantry for those in need, therapy services available to everyone, services for those with disabilities, and their families, career counseling, including weekly networking meetups, and a free clothes closet so people can be properly attired for interviews and beyond. Everything that JFS Clifton does is done with great professionalism and discretion. JFS Clifton is a boon to the community."
