"I was born in a tenement at 180 Leonard St. on 30 October 1921 and I started school at PS 18 ca. 1927. At that time the early grades were located in an old building that was connected to the new building by an overhead enclosed bridge. I never heard the name Edward Bush until recently, but he was the principal of PS 18 when only the old building existed. The teaching quality at PS 18 was excellent and I fondly remember many of the staff. My only unhappy memory is of a hulking bully who had a problem that left him too old for his peers. I met my wife at PS 18 when I was 10 years old and she was 9. She had blue eyes and golden hair and I was smitten for life. We had 4 daughters and 57 wonderful years together. Her death has left me a lonely superannuated engineer."
