"they advertise nice apartments with updated kitchen and nice stove etc. Well the apartment I moved to isnt like the one advertise online. & Pets ARE NOT ALLOWED. Unless it’s a ESA. Even that process is annoying. also YOU NEED rentals insurance for your esa too. update: I’ve been living here for a year and a half now and cindy has been helpful. There is a 24/7 maintenance guy but be careful because they do charge for minor inconveniences . They also updated my kitchen :)"
"Forget about parking! They allow anyone to park there with or without the pass. Sometimes I can’t even go home cause theres no spots. The front desk lady was nice while signing the lease but awful attitude after. And if you like noise and domestics this is a good spot. Do not recommend. Cheap rent = what you get"
"I lived here for three years as a post-grad. Square-footage to price is not bad, but you aren't getting luxury. If you're cool with a vibe that isn't super modern but is still decently maintained, it should work for you. The basement units have unattractive white tile floors while the first and second floor units have hardwood floors. Basement units are cheaper for that reason. Washer and dryer are not in-unit, but there is a laundry room in the complex. However, there is only one for the whole complex, so it may be in a different building from your apartment. The maintenance team that was there when we lived there was very chill and performed various different maintenance promptly. When you rent in a house, that doesn't always happen. A lot of luxury places will also charge for maintenance or even to let you in if you get locked out. Birchwoods is pretty chill on that front and they don't tack on a lot of extra charges. Pretty sure we did not pay any maintenance fees for the duration of our stay despite needing repairs, lockout requests, and help cleaning. They say online you can't have pets, but you are allowed to have cats. As far as I know, there is no additional deposit or rent for this. The negatives: this complex is somewhat pest prone. You will have to keep your apartment very clean, and they often inspect for cleanliness of apartments. However, they do have an exterminator that comes around frequently. The reason we moved out was because of noise. As other people have said, college students can get very loud. The first year or two, it was not a problem because we had requested a quiet part of the complex, and they will try to accommodate you. Eventually, we ended up with a neighbor who would throw parties until like three or four in the morning on a Tuesday. People would go talk to them multiple times and the cops even showed up once, but it never deterred them. Not all of the college students are whack, but it's definitely an element that can detract from the overall experience. Older people who lived there would be there for a long time and were generally chill. We really liked our neighbors across the hall. This part of town is fine to live in. Some college students may think this is a shady part of New Brunswick, but I can assure you it is not. There is a bar less than a block away, and it's a cool hangout spot. A lot of other small convenience stores in walking distance from here. I would say overall, if you are a chill, low maintenance person interested in an affordable living space, this would work for you. Your mileage may vary, but I enjoyed living here."
"After four years here I can definitively state your experience here is determined by the quality of the people living around you rather than the state of the apartments or management. So long as you keep your apartment clean management will not bother you. They are prompt about making repairs when you report issues and they don't try anything sneaky with charges. The apartments are rather old and can go through a lot of wear and tear from year to year depending on who is living there, so do not be surprised by peeling paint, scuffed floors, and drafty windows. I think the worst part of the apartment infrastructure was the plumbing which could definitely use some work being shared between groups of apartments. Drains clog very easily from hair and when it has to get fixed it's not a pretty sight and affects everybody that shares plumbing. Other than that, the apartment serves its purpose for the price you pay which is relatively cheap. The worst part by far is dealing with your neighbors. The people that rent here range from quiet honors students to rowdy greek life types that lost their recognition from Rutgers to the occasional low income family. You might get lucky and the people living around you are quiet and you seldom see them. Or you could get very unlucky and your neighbors bring back bed bugs from abroad (which management handled well tbh). However most years I ended up stuck next to greek life expats that party at all hours of the night and borderline harass you when you call the cops on them. It doesn't help that the walls and ceilings are very thin so you're out of luck if the sorority sisters above you come home at 2 AM from the bar on a Wednesday stomping to bed in heels. Ultimately, besides distance from my job and covid-19 related upheavals, the people living around me are what made me decide to move out. 4 stars because the negatives were largely things that management could not control except by somehow vetting renters a little better. The only thing I could ask of management would be to update the apartments, but I understand why they don't with the type of people that decide to live here."
"This place is awesome and friendly to international students. It is located at one of the safest area in New Brunswick, plus there are many surveillance cameras installed. So safety is not really an issue here, as long as you don't go out alone too late. Maintenance guys respond quick and are always helpful. Cons: Floor in some apartments is squeaky. If your neighbors are party type, it will get noisy in the living room. However it is hard to hear any noise from the bedrooms."
