Reviews of Astoria West
"My review after 3 months move-in. 2 stars is mostly driven by the cons/my feedback. Pros: very quiet if you're not facing 30th dr where the construction is, views, gym is fully equipped with Matrix equipment and has two studios, Package Concierge (locker system), rooftop has 7 grills and stretches across the west building, weekly/bi-weekly events for residents (trivia, poker night), close proximity to Astoria ferry, socrates park and astoria park (free yoga and market in the warmer months), 2 blocks to Costco, private shuttle to/from the Broadway NW station during commute hours but I haven't used it much to comment on it - I do know that the previous bus driver was extremely rude to residents and eventually mgmt replaced her, large parking garage - we pay $275/mo. which is reasonable for this location. I’ve enjoyed discovering small biz in the area (Tia Maria, Pita Hot) and the public library nearby. Cons: location- while we get riverfront views and the privacy of being secluded it takes 15-30 min to walk to the center of things, swimming pool is a ridiculous price ($1200 for 3 months), location is safe unless you walk north past Astoria Ferry - it starts to get sketch, a couple of front desk staff never make eye contact or greet me when I leave/come back (however most bldg staff are friendly), my hallway smells like weed 24/7 and people smoke right outside the building entrance, pool/roof gets loud in the summer time and the noise echoes in the courtyard where the inner units face (plus, there's a dog that constantly barks as if their owner leaves them on their veranda all day), packages don't all go to one place - they're distributed between the lockers and front desk and USPS packages are placed in mailboxes (this was all very confusing when I moved in, utility bills have to be picked up at front desk and they’re 2 months behind?!?, how could I forget the pet fee ($25/pet/month). I’ve lived in NYC for 8 years and have never had to pay a pet fee so I think it’s outright stealing. Feedback to management: I agree w other reviewers here that there are residents who don't respect their neighbors and cause disturbances with loud music and smoking weed or cigarettes in their unit. My friend visited me a few times said it always smells like weed here. Please enforce the rules that we all had to sign in contract. I've seen people with their dogs in common rooms where they're not allowed. Also, I'm concerned that there are neighbors saying they've seen homeless or homeless-looking individuals hanging out in our stairwell - this is absolutely unacceptable! Hire more staff - hire security guards! This bldg is severely understaffed as it is. For $4k rent I can live in a safer and better managed building that's closer to the subway station - I will not renew my lease if my safety and wellbeing continue to be jeopardized."
"Astoria West has been excellent from the onset through move in. We started with Ruth Planitzer as our initial contact. She helped navigate the entire process, from discussing availability to showing the apartment, negotiating the lease, gathering the docs and ultimately getting the apartment set up to perfection. I really do want to highlight that Ruth was with us every step of the way to make sure we were happy. She addressed every concern, despite my numerous emails and phone calls and remained patient, available and communicative. She is extremely professional, personable, honest and ethical and really made a difficult time, a happy and enjoyable process. The apartment itself came furnished as promised, with brand new, modern furniture, appliances, lighting fixtures, and bedding. The unit was spotless, and it is really incredibly quiet. The apartment couldn't be better, and neither could Ruth have been. Applause for the professionalism and amazing space! Lastly, the building is incredibly clean, the staff is so welcoming and Pierre, the manager at the parking garage is excellent. I highly recommend this complex."
"I had the time of my life living at Astoria West! I seriously cannot speak highly enough of the amazing staff members - professional, down to earth, genuinely kind & fun to get to know. As a young woman living alone, I always felt safe in the building. If I had a problem with my unit, it would promptly get solved by management, often the very same day I put in a work order request. The neighborhood is awesome & the building amenities are top notch. Probably one of the nicest buildings I will ever live in. 12/10. You wont regret living here."
"PROS: staff are kind, attentive, helpful and knowledgeable. Every staff member we have encountered/worked with has gone absolutely above and beyond, and we could not be more grateful for that. The amenities are nice and well tended to (other than the fickle A/Cs in a couple of the amenity rooms). Booking and using the amenities is easy and user friendly. CONS: we’ve been here about a year now, and the tenants they are allowing to rent has gone observably downhill. My partner and I are open-minded people, but this is a luxury building, and the affordable housing lottery AW holds every few months has allowed people who are not in that market to occupy at least half of the units. The people I’m referencing are the loud groups of young people who reek of weed and cigarettes and smoke both substances late into the night, throwing parties all hours of the morning. People who shout in the hallways on our floor late at night, groups of 3-4 people who seemingly share a one bedroom apartment (and if that’s not the case, people who just perpetually have friends living with them). People who do not know how to act like civilized humans…. getting drunk in common spaces, blasting their own music, shouting and disrupting guests who sought out the building to not have to deal with such people. And no quality control or ramifications for misbehavior. We pay a steep premium to live in a luxury building, and it feels like it’s just become increasingly trashy. Look elsewhere if you’re looking for a true luxury experience."
"I really enjoyed living experience at Astoria west! This is definitely one of my favorite luxury apartments. All of staffs are very kind and helpful. With the view and amenities are even dreamy!!! If i didn't had to move to another city, i would live here forever! Highly recommended!!!"
