Reviews of Meridia Transit Crossing Apartments
"I've lived here for about a year and a half. Pros: - Good location for the train station and city commuting. - Close to most conveniences - gas station and supermarket 3-4 minutes up the road. Liquor store and convenience store in walking distance. Good restaurants nearby. - Appliances new-ish and work - Superintendent is pretty good and responsive to issues. Nice guy. - So far, no package theft despite a communal mail room - Not in a bad neighborhood - Neighbors are generally friendly and keep to themselves in my building - On rare occasions I'll come home from work and there's a table set up in the lobby with brownies and cookies/similar. It's a nice little surprise when it happens Cons: - Starting rents have gone up substantially since I moved in, so the deal is getting worse and worse for new tenants. Just like everywhere else around here, I guess. - Building 200's fire alarm system goes off so frequently as to be a public nuisance. So far I've seen it go off 7 times - 4 of which happened at or around 4AM, which is not the most pleasant way to be woken up. So far, all of them have been 'false alarms' as far as I know. This happens way, WAY more frequently here than anywhere else I've lived. Completely ridiculous and I feel terrible for the volunteer firefighters who show up every time for nothing. Hope it doesn't lead to a 'boy who cried wolf' situation. - Dog size rules are not strictly enforced - no mastiffs but definitely a few over 40lbs. I guess this could be either a pro or a con. It's a con for me. - The train going by is extremely loud. You'll get used to it, but you'll still notice it a bit. It's a lot less fun when you're outside walking back from your car and you get blasted. The crossing is right up the street so the train blows the horn, as required by law. Every single time it goes by. - They gave me grief when trying to remove my ex from my lease and parking spot after we split. As though it were an inconvenience to do basic administrative work when I'm paying them 2 and a half grand a month. - The doors and walls are pretty thin/uninsulated - I hear full conversations from the people across the hall, and every step from my upstairs neighbor. - Recycling dumpster frequently overflowing and thus annoying/difficult to use If you need a place around this area, this place is alright. Not the worst place I've lived, not the best. The fundamentals are all there, but there are a few nuisances."
"Living here about 5 years, since the beginning felt like home. Very secure property besides a lot of nature surrounding. Buildings are always very clean, maintenance staff is always fast and solves everything very quick as also the general maintenance inside and outside the premises, tenants are friendly and no problems at all. Management has always responded with good manners. So for me moving here was the best decision I could have made. It’s a wonderful thing living here."
"My husband and I moved in a little less than a month ago. I've read some of the other reviews. Yes, you can expect noise from the train, because we're next to a train station- this is common sense. We haven't had issues with noisy neighbors, and everyone has kept to themselves and been friendly. The apartments are beautiful and have the feel of a modern hotel, which we love. The maintenance staff is super timely and helpful. We have been very happy with our move so far."
"It’s a great place to live in Garfield. However, it is becoming increasingly expensive and according to state of NJ, there is no rent increase cap so the rent increase can anywhere from 4% to 10% per year. Not sure that Garfield has any rent increase cap limitations. We’re at the mercy of unscrupulous landlords. Watch out for this lease amenities. If you don’t need these, ask to have the cost removed from the lease ($150 for these amenities). An additional comment: Someone left the below reply on my review: Response from the owner a day ago Hi Joey, thank you for the honest review. Our rent increases are based on market rents and are competitively priced. Response: If this is the case, are we talking about a variable rental lease or a fixed lease base upon that this is a signed contract between landlord / tenant. If this is based on the market rents of which fluctuates on a day-today basis. Am I looking at this market rent (as you say) to also affect my month-to-month rent. Or as I have studied the market rent, I believe that there is the so-called 5 year itch that Landlords are withholding in order to get rid of their tenants and get new ones. This may the real reason behind this rental increase. Something that is being withheld to all renting tenants."
"I lived at Meridia for two years and recently moved out. If I could simply review the Superintendent (Paul) and the building's staff, I'd give 5 stars. Paul is such a kind, thorough, and hard-working man. He's so incredibly multi-faceted, and always busy. I can't imagine he isn't overworked; I simply hope Meridia knows how valuable he is and shows it. We never had super negative experiences with Meridia, but we were, at times, punished as a collective for the actions of few. For example, the gym (that we all pay for in our rent) was closed when someone stole weights and didn't open until they were returned. Never understood why a paid amenity was revoked when the building has cameras. Otherwise, Meridia employees were usually nice, patient, and understanding. Building is fresh and clean-looking, just a bit overpriced. Our bedrooms didn't even have full closets, hot water only lasts 15 minutes, walls on the first floor crack over time due to structural issues, etc. Note to anyone with respiratory issues: first floor apartments have really bad humidity problems. My bedroom didn't have windows. I only had one vent that pulled in air from outside, but it usually brought in the smell of mulch. My health took a decline here due to my asthma."
