"I went to this school. Bathrooms are trash. The cafeteria is trash too. It was really hard to even get a seat to eat my lunch. The principal don't do nothing for the students. I was in g n t class and it was horrible. We are treated so badly. My friend was crying one day and the teacher told her to shut up. Too many stairs. In 6th grade my homeroom was on the 4th floor but there's another building and we had to all the way there to just go to science."
"there is only one bathroom in the entire school on the first floor. You have to walk up four flights of stairs if your classes are on the 4th floor. The tests are usually a surprise to students. The cafeteria is disgusting. the janitors barely clean under the tables in the cafeteria. They make you buy supplies that you barely use. The teachers claim that buying some things will "give you extra credit" but it doesn't. The bus's are free so that's good. Overall a crappy school but good bus service if you live far."
"Unfortunately the school has a few sanitation problems, but that doesn't beat the fact that you get a pretty decent education and it will help you expand your mindset/knowledge. I wasn't really in favor for the Student Led Conferences since I was a bit "shy" so hopefully they could change that. After your first week there, the school becomes more recognized at you get to memorize your schedule. There are always that group in every grade that causes trouble so make sure you don't get caught in that since we have a very serious, strict dean. I overall liked my experience there and only the bathrooms, cafeteria and sometimes the hall is dirty but the classrooms are nice (not all classrooms have air conditioners) We have many programs for example Maspeth Town Hall and Broadway Junior (open to the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders) I made a bunch of new friends and I think this school will create memorable experiences and a good junior high experience."
"I am an eighth grade Gifted and Talented students who has been attending this school for three years and overall, I would say that this school is wonderful, although there are sanitary issues. Imagine having three tests in a day and not having clean place to sit in calm. The teachers that work in the school strive hard for their students to do exceptional and perform good, especially on the regents and NYC State Tests. In order to help us, the teachers give up their lunch periods so that students can come up and practice/study for any upcoming tests or any skill that they are confused on. In my opinion, there are teachers who stand out to me more than other teachers such as Mr. Edelman(humorous math teacher), Mr.Wansor(cranky old man who tells amazing stories and collects a variety of insects), Mrs.Govier(the most sassy math teacher you will ever find), Mr.Teehan(a comedian who my class loves), Mrs. Marino(Punk Ela teacher who loves lifting weights), Mrs.Fleri(has a nice collection of books for students to read for throughout the school year), Mrs. Monte(a social studies teacher who is chill but has a low temper), and of course my awesome homeroom teacher,Mrs.Hagestien. In addition, the stuff members in our school are extremely kind to students, either if it’s in the lunch room or while we are passing from one class to another. Now the kids in 119. Most of the kids are nice and respectful to others and their teachers, although there is a certain group who act “ratchet” but that’s just my opinion. Our principal is always engaged with school activities especially the fundraisers that homerooms hold and turn out to be successful. Thus, your child should definitely attend this school for amazing opportunities, especially if you plan on making your child take the SHSAT, for the teachers prepare some of the math concepts in class!"
"Overall, I enjoyed my experience(sort of). The teachers are nice(most of them, anyway) but are a bit sarcastic, which isn't a good teacher quality. What I like is that since there is a lot of group work you develop strong bonds with your fellow students. Not bad, but not he best either. :/"
