Montclair Gardens

"Update 11-1-23 Sometimes you write a bad review and regret it. Just wanted to follow up to want others of this building. Unfortunately, there is no change to my initial review. We have had chronic water dripping from our bathroom ceiling, and despite our efforts to notify the management, they send the super, who paints over the problem. We had an explosion out of our kitchen drain which we mopped up ourselves. They refused to pay to have our carpet cleaned; a result from the explosion. The building is not safe and no one cares. I have rented in Montclair half my life. I was around the corner on Claremont for years. The super and manager were the nicest people and they really cared about the place. Several years ago when the new owners bought the building everything changed for the worse. The super is ineffectual and they force him to do jobs he is not qualified to do. Hear is my original review: I have lived in this building for over five years. The management company and newest owner are truly unprofessional and unreachable. Maintenance is so bad. Tickets get closed without work being done. You cannot reach a building manager despite email, text, and their online app. Rents have increased in the past two years and they just don’t care about the renters they have. We have brought complaints to the mayors office and will continue to fight for basic necessities. 1. Elevators out for many months. We have some older folks and it has been hard on them. 2. Heat issues have been a disruptive. 3. Water issue shave been disruptive. 4. They now charge for pets and parking with penalty fees for just about everything. The absolute worst part is no one cares or can be reached. All of the emails are automatic do not reply…one way communication. The old owner and management company were dramatically better. Take this review under advisement when you are considering renting in Montclair Gardens. Sincerely, Glenn"

"Moved here from NYC a few years ago and fell in love with the area and building. That said, things have consistently gone down hill since then. Building management changed over and new management has been horrendous at taking care of the building. They are unresponsive and consistently unhelpful. The management team are responsible for another building in a completely different town and therefore never come to this building to check on things. And if you need to contact them, don't bother calling the phone # on the apartment website or the one posted on the side of our building because those belong to a completely different company/building! If you want to reach anyone at the Montclair Gardens, you have to contact the team at the Mountainview Gardens (makes perfect sense, I know!) The building is dirty (stairwells, entryway, elevator), the courtyard is covered in dog poop, there are boiler issues, packages overflowing in the entry way of the building making it difficult to get in and out, there are always issues with the laundry machines, the list goes on. It really is a shame because it is SUCH a beautiful building in a really great location, but the lack of care for the building and tenants in general should be a huge red flag to anyone looking to move here."

"Lived here for 3 years. First 1.5 were great then building was sold to current owners. Rent goes up every year, quality of living goes down. Regularly standing water in the basement (pictures are 2 days apart), laundry machines and dryers don't work despite increasing the cost per load, stopped paying for cleaners for the building and expect our over worked and underpaid/appreciated super to pick up the slack. Unresponsive, do nothing management does absolutely nothing when asked. Lights in elevator have been out for almost a year, regularly breaks."

"This apartment building is amazing!! From the lounge areas as you walk in to the beautiful outside terrace it's simply perfect AND they keep adding new and improved rooms like the gym that has all new equipment. The in house maintenance guy Russell has been a huge help for me and the property manager Brittany went above and beyond with any questions I had moving in and when I was living there. She made the entire process so easy and she's extremely thoughtful & helpful! I don't know how I would've survived my first time living alone without them both. Bottom line..if you're looking for the best place in Montclair to live this is definitely it!"
