"Doc's is the best liquor store in Astoria! The owner is super friendly and knowledgable and always has great recommendations for any occasion. Highly recommended!"
"A friend of mine was coming to dinner and asked if there was a good local wine shop. She bought a bottle here. We opened it and it was clearly not stored properly as it was 100% vinegar. When I tried returning it, I was treated to a 3 minute lecture on why this bottle had gone bad because I had not stored it properly. Despite multiple attempts to interject where I was spoken over, in which I tried to explain that it never made it to my wine fridge because it was opened less than 30 minutes after purchase, I finally just smiled and accepted the lecture. Then he asked for the credit card used to purchase, and I tried to explain that my friend who lives in Manhattan had left me the receipt but not her card. After which I was treated to another 3 minute lecture on how the IRS would come after him if he started giving cash back for credit card transactions. I finally just gave up and walked out, giving up on trying to explain that I merely was asking whether his system could reverse a charge without the actual card present… which based on his lecture, I presumed his system was too antiquated to do it and he was giving me a lecture to avoid admitting it. The few other times I’ve been here he seemed nice and knowledgeable. But if you get something here that winds up being spoiled, save yourself the trouble and just eat the loss. It’s not worth the lectures to attempt to get your money back."
