Reviews of HMH Southern Ocean Medical Center
"Despite the not so good reputation of this hospital my dad was taken here 4days ago and they saved his life..Doctors, RNs, techs, housekeeping, and even the front desk was so helpful from the time he was admitted to ER and then getting his room..They ran so many tests his body was shutting down to overuse of alcohol at his age..I am so grateful they kept him until all his levels were normal and he’s being sent home with a plan of action and help to get well!! Thank you to everyone who helped give my dad a second chance!!!"
"On Dec 14th my son broke his leg after falling 15 feet. He was taken by ambulance to SOCH emergency department. I quickly met him there and noticed they were only concerned with his leg injury so I said, you need to make sure he doesn’t have any injuries internally or a concussion considering he landed on his head and back. This is when the attending nurse practitioner, who already had a rude demeanor, displayed the most unprofessional, vulgar, insulting, mean, nasty bizarre behavior that was directed at my son. She spoke to him like he was a piece of dirt and began scolding him and wanted to argue and debate with him whether he initially said he hit his head or not! He politely and softly said I did tell you but she continued to defend herself and continued blaming and shaming a patient who obviously is in insurmountable pain and in shock. Her disdain towards a patient and her lack of compassion for someone in pain, scared and just told they need surgery is disgusting. She was more interested in starting a disagreement with my son than focusing on what needed to be done to ensure he didn’t have any underlying injuries. I finally said, he’s obviously in pain and shock so let’s just do what’s needed but honestly no one deserves to be treated so awfully. Being in the ER after an accident and having a serious injury is scary enough but when the people that are supposed to care for you and about you are nasty, hateful and mentally ill makes for a bad experience. Patient care expectations are that your treated with care and respect but this particular staff member was unprofessional, showed no care or concern and went so far as to upset a seriously injured patient. My son needed surgery and now has a metal rod in his leg and I hope in the future no other patient is ever treated so rudely and hateful during such a stressful and traumatic time . I advise to avoid this medical facility if possible. They have a lot of bad reviews that support my review and unfortunately they continue to provide poor care."
"The last few months I've spent more time than I'd like to admit in the ER and hospital. My dad's been having a really rough health rollercoaster. It's sad to say I know most of the nurses and even the lady that cleans the ER already. They work hard and are extremely nice. The ER doctors you talk to for maybe a 6 minute total,"what are your symptoms I'm going to run test and I suggest we keep you "My dad is 5"10 and I'm 5"2 and about 100 pounds this time he couldn't walk at all no mobility and nobody was able to help me get him in the wheelchair and bring him to the bathroom, diabetes urinate nonstop! So every 20 minutes or less I had to have my Dad lean over my back and I had to push his legs and maneuver him into the wheelchair. Then once he was admitted I had to help the nurses put him in the bed and pull the sheets from under him.The should maybe hire some men to help with this. I hope I never have to experience this again.I really need a break from everything medical and pray for my dad's health to get better and his mobility to return without him being in unexplainable pain."
"I was having a dental emergency (pain and swelling) and my dentist had told me to go to the ER because they couldn't help me at the dentist office. So I came here and I was brought right to the back. The lady at the front desk was so kind and then the two nurses in triage took my bp and got me right back. Dr. T listened to my concerns and had me feeling comfortable quickly. My nurse Scott was probably the nicest nurse I have ever met. He took great care of me. I was in and out in a couple of hours and feeling better. I was upset and in pain when I got there and was treated wonderfully. I have to add that I have been to this hospital before and it really could be hit or miss depending on the doctors and nurses. But I was satisfied with my visit tonight"
"On Sept 29, I had scheduled inpatient surgery at the Same day surgery center and spent the night. The hospital staff and surgery team were exemplary. The hospital room was clean and comfortable. Discharge was very easy the next day. Thank you for provide an easy stay for a difficult and stressful situation ."
