"We booked tickets in advance but the door keeper didn’t let us in, without naming a reason and we can’t get a refund for the tickets either. He was very unfriendly and seemed annoyed. Tickets and knowing the event/ Dj’s won’t guarantee an entry.. We were friendly sober and a just a group of 2. Messed up place. No need to go there :)"

"Amazing spot! They let everyone in with me and even a dude in a purple shirt who kept taking pics of everyone and having a great time. Really recommended for tourists and so on. Great night"

"Fun when you get in, but good luck bringing your friends who aren’t familiar with the pretentious unspoken rules of ‘etiquette.’ Basement’s stated door policy is designed to “curate a vibe” (whatever that means.) In reality they’re perpetuating a culture that’s antithetical to the entire ethos of techno. This means someone at the door will judge you, or your group, based on your appearance or your adherence to the mysterious codes of conduct expected. Bought a ticket for you and all your friends but caught talking on the phone or taking pictures in line? Denied. No refund. Asked the bouncer about closing hours or coat check? Pshh act like you’ve been here before, that’s no way to behave — denied. Imagine a night club that’s cool and fun but also filled with people who are eternally resentful of the fact they never were in the “popular” group in high school and have made it their life mission to get revenge by fabricating their own adult version of a cool kid club, where instead of being the jock, you have to wear all black and know their secret rules."

"You basically need to be dressed in a gimp outfit or Halloween costume to enter. I managed to get in. The bouncers are idiots who probably were doing security at a local Dollar Tree or Dollar General before here and I can tell know nothing about techno. The toxic fog machines inside are suffocating and it’s dirty here. The venue also robs people — spoke to some people who got turned down and didn’t receive a refund. Scummy people, dirty environment, and the security (even though I respect that the security are probably listening to Mystikal and not techno) are absolute trash. Didn’t respect how they were turning people down for discriminatory reasons. DJs should boycott Basement. Hell-hole."

"An Attempt at European Vibes Falls Flat My experience at this techno club left me with mixed feelings. While it aimed to recreate the ambiance of European clubs, it did so in an unsuccessful and somewhat exclusionary way. Upon arriving, it became clear that they had a strict dress code policy, allowing only people dressed in black. My group, consisting of one French and three Germans, was fortunate enough to gain entry, but we witnessed several individuals being turned away simply for wearing colors. This made us uncomfortable and gave off an unwelcoming vibe. Inside the club, they tried to set the atmosphere with an excessive amount of smoke, which honestly felt overwhelming at times. The red lights, while not too remarkable, added a certain charm. However, it was clear that the club was trying too hard to emulate the European experience without fully capturing its essence. One redeeming aspect was the music, which was undeniably good and kept us dancing throughout the night. The outdoor space was also a positive feature, offering a breath of fresh air amidst the somewhat suffocating indoor atmosphere. In comparison to other clubs in Bushwick, known for their open-mindedness and unique identities, this club falls short. Rather than imitating European clubs, perhaps they should take inspiration from their local counterparts and work on creating a more inclusive and genuine environment for all music lovers. While the music was enjoyable, the overall experience left much to be desired."
