Reviews of NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi
"Excellent hospital and bedside manners. We came with my mom who was on vacation here and needed assistance because she fainted. The primary doc who worked with her was great and very knowledgeable. He explained everything with a lot of details. The staff at the front desk was also great, friendly and courteous. I have no complaints."
"Since I have been going there I never had any problems with them. They are really nice and professional all the nurses and doctors, they take your health and the babies health very seriously, when I send any messages to the doctor's they get back to you so quickly I was amazed. This is why I chose this hospital. Love them dearly."
"I love Jacobi Medical Center it's the best it's always clean, the doctors explain stuff they don't hold back and they make sure you are in great condition and they care about their patients. Now some of the nurses not all the nurses they do act ghetto they be laughing loud while sick people are in their rooms, they be talking about other patients business out in the open what happened to patient doctor confidentiality it's none in there but the one nurse that help me was marvelous she was back in fourth while not only helping me but helping other patients...they made sure I had my Ct scan, my blood work, I needed a sonogram, they made sure my pain was gone they did go above and beyond for me thank you Jacobi for everything y'all did for me, with the exception of some this is an overall great hospital"
"I have several negative things to say about this hospital. First, I was taken by ambulance in November 2001 to this hospital after my mom requested that I was taken to Westchester Square Hospital. The paramedics told her that Jacobi was closer. My mom and brothers didn't actually see me have a seizure and the doctors at Jacobi kind of guessed I had one, but still felt the need to do a spinal tap even though I was moving my neck. Why they thought I had meningitis is beyond me. Thank God I wasn't awake for this. The next day I went to work, I worked for a doctor, and he informed me that I was leaking fluids. I had to go to Westchester Square Hospital to have the fluids put back. Second, my second cousin had an aneurysm that was left undiagnosed at this hospital and sadly she passed away at work. My mom also needed staples in her head after falling outside on concrete and the stupid resident was rude and nasty and didn't give her any anesthesia. I don't recommend going to this hospital at all"
"The city should do something about bridging Emergency care in the Emergency room of Jacobi. I too have had HORRIBLE experiences in Jacobi's ER. The first time I came via Ambulance, I was gushing blood from my vagina all while being 6 months pregnant with twins. Once I got there EMS pushed me the side while trying to grab a nurse to check me in and let them know of the situation. Not one personal seemed concerned. I even overheard one nurse telling another medical member that I was having an "active miscarriage" all the while I could feel at least one of my babies kicking. EMS guys were sweethearts for bringing me upstairs to labor and delivery after the nurse stated I would be waiting down here longer for a transport if they didn't take me. Once upstairs, the medical team assisted me pronto. The high risk doctors kept me informed and educated me on my diagnoses, process, etc. My babies were both ALIVE and doing ok! So that was the better experience I had at the ER. The second time I came, it was about a week or two later, again via ambulance due to vaginal bleeding, this time the EMT were not so generous to take me upstairs so I had to wait for transporter. I was so embarrassed and frightened when I had to move from the stretcher to a wheelchair and wait for the transporter. To see the sheets wet and stained red with my blood is not something I'll be forgetting soon. Transporter eventually came after 10 minutes and once I got upstairs to labor and delivery I received the prompt care that I thought I should've gotten in the ER. In this case, being six months pregnant with twins and actively bleeding and losing a lot of blood, to the point of potentially needing a blood transfusion. It's disappointing to have the ambulance take me to the nearest hospital and the staff is walking around like a Sunday brunch. Then have to WAIT for a transporter is INSANE! When I'm pregnant and my life and along with 2 babies lives are on the line. Critical seconds could mean all the difference in life and death or a long term condition that could negatively affect the quality of life of you and or babies. I believe Jacobi can and must do better. To serve their patients and their communities with a much better quality. Also I really want to give kudos to the labor and delivery staff. Everyone from the high risk doctors, to the nurses, and midwives. They were all really helpful and nice. The type of service I've received is like night and day from the ER. Almost feels like two different hospitals. Hopefully my comment/rant helps more than I want it to hurt the hospital."
