The Grenville Hotel & Restaurant 345 Main Avenue, Bay Head, NJ 08742

"The room was so tiny. It had no head space. The shades didn't keep the sun out. The bed was uncomfortable and the pillows had an odor. The young man at the front desk didn't even look up when we came in. We left New Years eve and he didn't even wish us a Happy New Year. The shower head was nice but the floor of the shower was very slippery and there was no grab bar in the shower. We ate at the restaurant and my husband had the crab cakes. They tasted like they were from shop rite and they were not lump crab cakes . The mashed potatoes were very bland. Our waiter was very nice. There was no parking except street parking and the road was very busy. We parked in the back as my husband is handicapped and leaving it was very difficult to see because of all the cars parked on the street. We will never stay here again."

"This was my third time staying at The Grenville, and none of my experiences have been great but this one was by far the worst. I recalled the last time my husband and I came, our room smelled really bad and the rooms clearly haven't been updated in years nor have they put any money into repairs in the rooms. But we decided to give it another shot because it is one of the few options in Bay Head. I am 7 months pregnant and we brought our 19 month old daughter to have one last weekend as a family of three at the shore. Here are some fair warnings for others considering staying here: The Grenville is a venue for baby showers, bridal showers, and weddings among other things. I knew that they held showers at the Grenville during the day, but I did not know they had weddings. There is one entrance, where you check in and this small lobby is where all the guests for these events are going to also be entering and leaving. When we arrived there was a shower, it's a little awkward after a long trip to be lugging in all your bags and checking in with the dining room right there and guests coming and going at the same time. Later, after my daughters nap, we headed out and the entire front entrance and stairs were completely blocked by the wedding party ---the wedding that the staff failed to tell us about when we talked to them on the phone to book our room. Again, awkward to feel like we are interrupting or interfering with their wedding but with such a small space and one entrance we had no choice. Then when we got back from dinner around 6pm I was naive enough to say to my husband "I hope we don't have any more awkward wedding run-ins, but this venue is so small there is no way that the reception is here they probably just had a ceremony and then took the party elsewhere". Oh how wrong I was... We walk in and the bar was set up to the right of the front door, the wedding planning is running around telling everyone that the bride and groom are getting ready to be announced for the first dance, and we had to literally walk directly in front of the bride to pass the reception to get to the stairs to go to our room. It could not have been more uncomfortable, again this is us in sweaters and leggings coming back from dinner at 6pm with our toddler and basically walking into someone else's wedding. May I remind you, that this is a small hotel, with thin walls, and NO ONE told us there was a wedding. So we go to our room and start getting ready for bed. We did not have a tub in our room (even though we told them we were bringing our child) so I had to get in the shower with her and bath her by holding her in the shower, at 7 months pregnant. My daughter goes to sleep between 7-7:30 pm. The music from the wedding reception is PULSING through our room. It was like we were staying above a night club and I was livid. Not only because our daughter was trying to go to bed but I too was going to bed around 8:30/9 pm and I could not sleep. We were so tired after a day of traveling and a horrible nap and then we had to deal with this pulsing club music in our room. That wasn't even the worst of it..... the Grenville is dog friendly. We love dogs, we have a dog. We did not bring our dog because she would be scared being in a room by herself while we went out. Which is clearly what was happening to the dog in the room next to ours. This dog barked for over 4 hours non-stop (6-10:30) and then sporadically after that point. The last bark I heard, that woke me up, was at 1:15 am. The barking was so consistent and so loud because the walls are so thin and there was nothing I could do. I couldn't contact the hotel, the wedding music was blasting and I didn't want to get on the phone while I am trying to get my daughter to sleep, so I attempted to email them TWICE to ask if there was anything they could do about the dog, and when the music would stop. I never got a reply, not even to this day. They didn't even have the decency to apologize after the fact or check in. So I have decided we are NEVER going to stay at the Grenville ever again."

"This past weekend we had our wedding and wedding reception at the Grenville. I have been assisting with weddings for 15 years and I have never seen or been a part of one running so incredibly smooth. First the owners, Maureen and Harry are perfect as well as Patti and everyone on their staff. They set the tone for relaxation and are so down to earth and comfortable to be around. Perfect, I do not know how to leave a better compliment than perfect. Our Groom is a Chef so food is a passion for him and many other Chef's in the room. The food was OUTSTANDING! Service, FLAWLESS. Comfort, AMAZING. Not to mention it is dog friendly and they were amazing with all of our poochies. The Grenville and The Grenville Team get an 11 out of 10!! If you want a wedding in Bay Head, NJ. "Lovely B&B one block from the ocean. We ate dinner on a Sunday night. The restaurant features both indoor and front porch dining. The restaurant wasn't crowded. A choice of a complimentary house or Caesar salad was adequate. All 4 of us ordered the sea bass entrée which came with spinach and mashed potatoes. The fish was covered in a cream sauce. The fish was good but we couldn't identify the type of sea bass. The kitchen service was very slow. After our salad, we waited more than 1 hour before receiving our entrées despite the fact that the restaurant wasn't crowded."

You can also walk into the charming town of Bay Head, or take a short car ride to Point Pleasant. But what truly sets this hotel apart is the exceptional service provided by the owners and staff - a special shout out to Maureen, Harry, Dillon & Patti. They continually go above and beyond to cater to all guests. They offer valuable recommendations, and answer any questions you have - all with a smile! We are already planning our next visit. Five stars simply don't do justice to the sheer excellence of this hotel!"
