"I stayed here at the end of September 2023 for 10 days. The only reason I can even give this 1 star is because the bathroom was in excellent condition (recently updated & clean) and it’s close proximity to the beach. Beyond those two things I would NOT recommend staying here. The first night it took over an hour to get into my room (after the 30 minutes spent lost on the street trying to find the entrance since the signage was small & poorly illuminated & the description never mentioned that they are located above a bbq restaurant). When I finally found the room, the code didn’t work. The concierge gave me a new code which still didn’t work & various directions on how to jiggle the handle & pull the door. Finally they had to send the area manager to unlock it & she had to provide a key because she realized that both codes provided were no good. The window was stuck open without a screen & I had to email for 2 days before she came back out to fix it. The 2nd night I noticed a few roaches near the mini-fridge. After that I saw more in the room on at least 3 other occasions including crawling under the bed on my last night. Finally, beyond the loud music from the bbq restaurant under the room on some nights (the room has several sets of disposable earplugs) their smoker had a huge impact on my room. My clothes and even my face mask smelled like bbq smoke & nearly everyday the room was filled with a smoky haze. This left my eyes dry & burning & seriously aggravated my allergies. Everything I brought including a travel blanket wreaked of the smoky bbq smell when I returned home. I emailed the management agency about these concerns so they could adequately address them, but have yet to receive a response beyond, “we’ll look into it.”"
"Room OK; management terrible. Small but adequate rooms with fun quirky decor; great beach location. Room lock code didn't work, and I spent an hour trying to get the remote property manager to get me in; without access to email, I had no choice but to call the "emergency" number - 4 times - each time assured they'd pass the message on, but nobody got back to me. Absolutely infuriating start to my vacation. The room isn't cheap...for that price you have to take better care with customer service."
"My husband wanted to stay here on our staycation to the Rockaways because he liked the funky vibe on the website. We booked one of the studio rooms based on the photos. First the rooms are A LOT smaller than they look in photos. There weren't any closets or storage spaces in the room, so our stuff was all over the whole trip. There weren't even any shelves or nightstands or anything near the bed, so we had nowhere except the floor or under our pillows to put our phones during the night. Also there was a cute hanging chair in the website photos, which was one of the reasons we booked this specific room, but when we got there it had clearly broken sometime before we arrived (the chain was still there) and been replaced by a regular chair - taking up more of the scant floor space. The bed was only a double bed, as nothing bigger would've fit in the room, but it was a bit of a tight squeeze. Also the hotel is above a bar/restaurant that is open and blasts music until late - to the extent that we could hear and identify the songs through the floor. The windows were thin or not well-insulated or something, because we could hear EVERYTHING on the street (and it was a very busy street). Also the blinds on the windows let in a ton of light on either side, and there weren't any curtains. Needless to say, with all the noise and the light we didn't sleep great the whole trip. Pros: great location, close to the beach, good food nearby, check in/out self-sufficient via codes Cons: everything else"
"Mold that made me physically sick, roaches crawling the bathroom walls and an owner/ operator that ignored and blew off my complaints. I was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection and bronchitis after two nights in Room #2. The smell of mold was overwhelming. The host did not one single thing to help me. I honestly thought I was dying of COVID and spent $150 at an urgent care center. I was up coughing all night. It has been three days and my voice has not returned. This place is deadly."
"The place was cute and we were happy at first. Being New Yorkers we expect some street noise and weren’t concerned until the live band started playing directly underneath our room (1) until after midnight and was replaced with blasting music from a radio after. The bass made the room literally vibrate and there was no sleep for us until well after 1am. It wasn’t at all reasonable or what was advertised. We wrote that nice asking to be moved and weren’t responded to until the next day. We requested money back for that night and was not accommodated by the host or Airbnb. We’ll never go back and I don’t know how anyone could stay there unless you stay out all night or luck out on a quiet night downstairs."
