"Working with them has been one of the biggest dissappoints in an already unfortunate situation. They have done nothing but wasted my time and energy and have no interest in protecting children's safety, future and rights. I was notified a week before trial I would not be represented because "it appeared we have a difference in strategy for the hearing, as well as what the desired outcome should be." when I made it very clear what outcome I wanted from the beginning of working with them."
"It goes by income. You can't make some money because they will reject you. Very unprofessional staff. Rude."
"Do NOT ask them any help! They just looking for exuse why they don't want to help.I tried to ask help from them few times in the past 3 years included family , domestic violence and immigration law.Non of them I got help with.I got help from Edison Nj ( same organisation )much better than from Jersey City.THe people in JC just got them salary and did not do them job.In an immigration case I got from them az A 4 form with an other person's personal and case details ( they said by mistake ) but still they gave out a serious confiedential details of a sensitive case ) Do not trust in them So unprofessionals and they refuse to give real help.I don't know who runs this organisation and from what money they are functioning from, but the Jersey City Office definetely need a complete change.ASAP"
"The services are great but it’s kind of hard to get in contact with somebody when you’re needing help but I understand the mission and I’m very grateful for it."
"Absolutely Terrible. Entitled and unprofessional, unethical and smug. Their website portrays them as a bastion of legal protection for those in need and vulnerable. Nothing could be farther from the truth. They actually denied a landlord tenant case where a tenant is being evicted by a landlord in retaliation to habitability complaints, and a supervisor here stated that it is against their policy to take landlord tenant matters that involve habitability issues. One of the primary reasons for the landlord tenant act is habitability and the illegal eviction of tenants who complain and report these issues. So because we have water leaking into our apartment and rotting our floors, and an elevator that does not function for a disabled person, they refuse to take the case. Independent of merit or evidence. I didn’t even argue. I simply asked why thy have that policy when it runs contrary to their supposed and stated mission. The supervisor became irate and said - he did not feel that he had to provide an explanation. I said I just wanted to understand why they would make such a policy. He is a supervisor their. This policy precludes them from helping the most vulnerable tenants being taken advantage of by landlords breaking the law. But apparently, answering why they have such a policy in place when so many landlord/tenant matters involve habitability issues, to a prospective client was not important to Gabriel Fox. He dismissed my question and hung up the phone. He ran away like the unprofessional and unethical lawyer that he is. Clients in situations like mine are the exact reasons this organization exists. We’re being legally bullied by our landlord. Never missed a rent payment in 30 years. He also stated that he would have been able to provide better legal advice if I were not recording the call. How creepy. As if there is some legal secret that he could not say on a recorded line. Calls are commonly recorded in professional settings. We were not discussing his personal matter. We were discussing mine and I keep recordings for my records. He was acting in a professional capacity. It is creepy that he would say that he could provide better assistance if not being recorded. This group should not be funded. They obviously exist to collect paychecks for themselves. We have evidence of every landlord/tenant violation including several ADA violations. And I must go to court without a lawyer because the apartment I live has not been maintained in decades and is falling apart which is the landlord’s responsibility. I am glad that I recorded that call. Proof that these people are not doing their stated duty. they claim they’re there to help people. Yet I informed them that I am disabled and require use of a powered wheelchair and can not even get in and out of my building due to a faulty elevator. Yet that kind of case does not meet their criteria. Yet they liked to repeat how they’re there to help people. Shameful. I will be following up with the bar association."
