"What can l say? Expensive?! Yes indeed but very high quality. Perhaps the best fish shop of Manhattan. At Citarella the goal main is one: Q U A L I T Y. I shop there at least once a week. Of course l am poor and l have little money for the rest but at least I eat great fish. PS Mike Citarella came from Sicily."
"Amazing customer service! Above and beyond! Check out the Chili Oil from a company named 24Vegan, if you get a chance, it’s mild and savory and I put in my chicken marinade, magnificent!!!"
"I am a local. Everything is way over priced here. My wife bought one large sweet potato for $7 at $5 lbs. At Whole Foods I can get the same Japanese sweet potato - 6large ones for $8 at $1.99 lbs. The majority of the produce here is not even organic. The meat is not grass fed or organic either, but they’re charging grass fed prices. The seafood is extremely over priced for what’s available in the market. Staff are not that impressive too. Don’t know why you’d spend money here. The majority of customers are seniors, and I feel this company takes advantage of them knowing they cannot move far to get their groceries. We need a quality place like Eataly in this neighborhood. A place that can justify their high prices."
"On July 7, 2023 We bought three dozen little neck clams $29.97. When we got home there 28 clams instead of 36. We submitted a complaint and they told us to send a picture of the product and receipt which we did. They then told us they were issuing a refund. NO refund was issued!!! They will short you and then tell you they will make it right but don't. We will never go back. If you choose to go I would make sure you carefully watch the scale for a correct weight and recount your shrimp or shellfish before you leave the store."
"Citarella's food looks better than it tastes. The meat is OK - not on the level of an artisanal butcher like Fleischer. The fish section is large. But don't expect anything wild caught to be particularly fresh. The cheese is mediocre mass market stuff. Fruits and vegetables aren't particularly flavorful - not surprisingly as there is almost no regard to seasonality. In short i would never shop here if there another more decent option within walking distance. But the upper east side location is better than the nearby options."
