"What was done: Wash, dry and cut How we landed here: I am grateful for Jennifer (the Owner) and the experience we had at the Natural Hair Studio. I am very intentional about maintaining my 10 y/o daughter's beautiful thick 4C hair and after a traumatic haircut gone wrong, I really needed to find someone that knew exactly what they were doing and would care for her hair properly. While styling and maintaining her hair myself is something I enjoy doing with her, cutting her hair is NOT my expertise. After asking a few family members and friends for recommendations followed by a thorough google search, I found the Natural Hair Studio as a top recommended selection. I had never heard of them, so I sat and read every single review and the responses. I also went into the instagram page and really liked what I saw. I made an informed decision and made the call to book an appointment today. I noticed that the Natural Hair Studio’s calendar gets filled quickly so I prepared to have to wait until August or further. Well, they had just opened up for booking for the month of July and July was already filled but they were able to get my daughter in the today, which was such a blessing!! So I rearranged my afternoon plans and made our way there! The Parking: The appointment was set for 5pm, so I intentionally planned to get there at least 15 minutes earlier to make sure I had time to swing around the block, but I found parking as soon as we pulled up! However, I do suggest preparing to wrap around a few times during peak hours. So I recommend arriving early! ;) The Salon: It was easy to find and strategically surrounded by places to eat should you need a snack or full out meal while you wait. I appreciated the wall art, book selections to read, seating arrangements and furniture, cleanliness (double 5 starts for a well kept and nice looking restroom!!) and overall ambiance. Definitely a plus!! The Experience: I loved the care with which they handled my daughter and the attention to detail. My daughter personally enjoyed how Asia (not sure if I spelled her name correctly) washed her hair and made her feel comfortable and was interested in her as a person. My daughter enjoys talking so she appreciates adults engaging in conversation with her and showing interest. And while I had work to finish, I was able to get work done and on occasion engage in a range of conversations about what was playing on the TV and other news, which made the experience enjoyable. The Outcome: What I mostly valued was Jennifer’s meticulousness in cutting my daughter’s hair and even out her hair well. Jennifer ensured the outcome was what we were looking for and we are not disappointed! My daughter’s face lit up when she saw the end results and so did I! She also encouraged ways to care for her hair moving forward, what to avoid and how to keep it healthy, which was appreciated! I felt confident in her recommendations."

"I have thick, long, coarse 4C hair and I do not let just anybody play in my hair. I have been searching for years for someone who knows how to handle my hair type. Someone who looks like me, and is a licensed, expert hairstylist who knows better than to use a fine tooth comb in my strands. I was in desperate, with a capital D, need of a trim. My ends were hanging on for dear life, and some had already left the building. Jen, the proprietor of The Natural Hair Studio, hooked me up. I had a wash, condition, blowout, trim, half braids and half twist hairstyle. I don't usually put any heat to my hair but some heat is necessary for a good trim if you have tightly coiled hair. The shop intern washed my hair with vigor. If I can't feel 10 fingertips on my scalp, you're wasting my time. I felt all 10 so my time wasn't wasted. The hair products smelled Black girl magic good, like coconut, peppermint, mangoes, etc. The shop was clean and the wait time was within the expected range. If you're a Black woman who regularly gets her hair done, you know we spend hours in the salon and there is always wait time after the conditioner comes out. It took Jen a couple of hours to do my hair because I wanted twists with braids. Jen does smaller twists so they'll keep longer, which in turn takes longer to do. The price for the services were in line with other licensed shops. The list price is on the web so there are no surprises. Be forewarned, parking is horrible around the shop. It's an industrial/multi-unit residential area. You better be adept at parallel parking in miniature spaces or be prepared to foot it from a few blocks over. My parallel parking game is -0 so I had to walk over a few blocks. I was overall satisfied with my experience and Jen is good people. It was worth the drive."

"This was my first visit and I drove an hour to get my hair done. I was hyped by the IG promo. First anyone going here should know parking is very limited in this area. I arrived at my appointment time of 10am. The tv was blasting so the the owner had to literally yell to me. The owner was doing someone's hairwhen I arrived at my appointment time. The shampoo girl on the phone waves me over to sit in her chair. No greeting, no consult nothing. After getting my hair washed and blown out I'm left sitting and waiting an hour before I get my hair braided. 2 more customers come in. Mind you there's only the one stylist. I do not understand for the life of me why people overbook appointments. It shows a lack of respect for your client's time. Anyway I'm asked to wait in another seat while they started another person hair. Finally I finish 5 hours later. While getting my hair done there was a conversation between the stylists about sexultiy and the owner stops mid conversation and asks me if I'm transgendered because she dont want to offend me. I'm not but that alone is offensive. That was not a conversation for the Hair Salon. But thankfully they had since enough to end the conversation when a young child came in. I was charged $165 for this experience. A simple cornrow style on my natural shoulder length straight hair is rediculous. I will say the outcome was neat and it did come out nice. However there's a culture of over charging and poor customer service in African American salons and thus why they don't retain customers. Because even though she is talented I would never return because of the poor customer service experience."

"Today was my first time at the Natural Hair Studio. I have to say Shanice is amazing, not only did she wash my hair and trim it so beautifully, but she shared healthy hair tips! I left with my hair feeling rejuvenated and having a better understanding of natural hair. Thank you!"
