"Although Colonia Dental is very thorough with their process and my family has had good experiences with service. Unfortunately our family had a bad experience with them where we kept being told we owed money after services we had already paid for. I kept thinking it was odd so I requested explanation of benefits from our dental insurance and compared them to what Colonia Dental was billing us. After looking at the bills I found we overpaid by over $400 (not a small amount) within one month of services. I called and spoke with Myesha who explained that their billing system “spits” out numbers and they send those billing rates to the insurance and charge the patient what their system indicates the insurance will cover and they bill the patient the rest. Myesha said that when they got payment from the insurance company that they would see what was billed vs paid and if a credit was needed they would send money back. I told Myesha I was aware of credentialing practices with doctors as I did it for a living and that I had called our insurance to confirm that the rates negotiated with our insurance they cannot over bill. If a person is not experienced with how insurances work most would not know that doctors negotiate preset rates with insurances and are not able to bill patients over that amount if rates are set in their contract, hence the explanations of benefits that we receive from our insurances. I asked that she call the insurance to verify the payment amounts and let me know. I got a call back a half an hour later at which time she informed me that they owed us over $400. Two weeks later we get a letter in the mail stating that they no longer accept our insurance because our insurance provider was compromising patient care with what they were willing to cover (translation they were not getting paid what they wanted for their services). In my opinion if the did they would have billed within the confinements of their contract there would not have been an issue. When billing systems are set up they are set up with what the facility indicates for billing amounts. Had we not been diligent with checking our explanation of benefits and our receipts we would not have known we were being over billed. We have decided to move on to another dentist with more reputable billing practices and keeping the same quality of care."

"Colonia Dental goes out of their way to make you feel at home. They also explain the procedure that they’re going to do, before they do anything. They are very respectful, and very good at what they do. And their billing expert takes time to explain everything to you, and submit everything to the insurance company on your behalf. I have had to have some major dental work done recently, and I would highly recommend Colonial Dental Associates to anyone looking for a great dentist and great dental associates. They are the best!"
