"Mine is not a very recent experience but it is worthy of note. I was told by Dr Cabassa’s office staff that the initial consult of a couple of hundred dollars was to be paid up front and could not be submitted to insurance as it was not covered. I later learned that was not true. During the initial exam and x-rays I identified the area giving me discomfort. Dr. Cabassa stated he wanted to begin treatment on a tooth/gum that did not at all feel problematic. That was perplexing. I was informed a treatment plan would be submitted to my insurances. The anticipated timeframe for receiving a reply from my primary insurance was approximately four (4) weeks. I would then receive an appointment to begin treatment. I had excellent coverage with three (3) insurances and Dr. Cabassa was a participating provider on my primary. Six weeks later I called the office and spoke with Joanie who told me they had not received an insurance response. My insurance companies however, all reported to me that they hadn’t received a single form from the periodontist’s office. When I was able to reach Joan, who was no longer returning my calls, she claimed to try to resubmit them again. Each month the insurance companies would respond to my status inquires that no documentation at all was received. Life went on, time went by, until I naively requested copies of their completed forms to help follow through. Joan refused. It became glaringly clear the only way I could receive treatment would be to self pay. The entire experience felt unethical and left me with zero trust in this provider."

"I've been seeing Dr. Cabassa, a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, since I moved to New Jersey in 2012. His professionalism, candor, and commitment to my oral health have been unwaveringly consistent the whole time. He gives it to me straight. As someone with periodontal disease, I'm on a regimen of four cleanings per year - two at Dr. Cabassa's office, and two at my normal dentist. So I see them basically all the time. Joanie and Heather, who work the front and take care of my hygiene, respectively, remain on top of my appointments and any minute changes to my teeth, and they remember everything I tell them about my personal life, which is pretty amazing for a medical office. The facility is modern and clean, and the parking is super convenient."
