Reviews of WAU
"Went for restaurant week so got their deal. But outside of that, everything was super overpriced for what you get. Brownie points for introducing ppl to Indonesian/Singaporean food. My favs would be the savory donut and Nasi Goreng. I’m Indonesian, so pretty disappointed with the Nasi Padang and Rendang. thought the crème brûlée had a spoiled taste, it is also watery at the bottom... and the taro tiramisu doesn't taste special (where's the taro???). Service felt like they were rushing and being impatient with us. But overall decent. There are better “Indonesian” restaurants in Elmhurst!"
"wow, what a cool vibe. this place has. their pineapple gingers are strong and hits great. The food generally is pretty good, but not all are bangers I would say. enjoyed the laksa and the leaf. wrapped rice with the roti canai, but the black pepper shrimp was a banger along with all the crispy condiments that came with. would definitely recommend as a place to go in this area."
"WAU located on the upper west side is managed by Executive Chef Salil Mehta, who also is the owner of Laut, which was one of the first Malaysian restaurants in NYC to receive a Michelin Star. WAU delivers promising and authentic flavors of Southeast Asian cuisine that consists of Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand while integrating the diverse and discerning palates of New York City. Doors open up to a beautifully decorated restaurant with the perfect lighting along with amazing staffs and super fast service. Cocktails are all hand crafted and goes perfectly with all appetizers and entrees. Portions are generous with excellent choice of plates to accompany each mouth watering dish. They have one of the best murtabak which is a Malaysian-Indian stuffed pancake. Farmers Kaprow Basil is cooked just like an authentic Southeast Asian local restaurant. Their Nasi Padang is cooked and then wrapped inside a big banana leaf for that perfect delicate flavor. They have an excellent variety of desserts so remember to save room!"
"This is an excellent Indonesian restaurant and is highly rated for good reason. We ordered two of the daily specials, and they both tasted delicious and we felt like it was a great deal for the area. My wife very much enjoyed all the fancy non-alcoholic drink options they had."
