"So I decided to go to my local Benjamin Moore to pick up Advance paint for a kitchen cabinet project I was doing myself. After making that clear to the young man working I asked him to advise me on certain aspects of the project that when researching wasn't clear. . . My first issue came after asking to order Benjamin Moore wood grain filler. I was told by the store worker that I could not order this unless I was ordering three or more gallons of it. Now, after buying 2 gallons of Stix primer and 2 gallons of Advance paint among other miscellaneous items for my paint project, I guess I did not spend enough money for him to go through the trouble to order something for a non contractor customer. I was so frustrated one day I saw the owner walking out of the store and I simply asked him in the parking lot could he order me a single gallon of Benjamin Moore wood grain filler if I need it. He told me sure no problem. This of course was after I had found an alternative method which was much more labor-intensive and was halfway through that process. Nice to know though. . My second issue was not being told you should not use the sample paint can you purchase on the actual project. After discovering that some of my cabinets had a different Sheen and asking why this would be I find out that you're not supposed to use this sample paint can because apparently it's a different paint. Now this sample paint can came in the exact Benjamin Moore advance paint can just in a smaller size. Without being told how was I supposed to know not to use that paint on the project. Especially during my first visit letting him know I was a do-it-yourselfer still he failed to let me know not to use that paint as part of the project. This of course caused me more time having to go back and redo the cabinets that I used the sample paint on. . . It seems to me the young guy working there only wants to take the time to help people that are contractors spending big bucks in there. That one day I came in asking questions about the proper way to thin Advance paint to run through my HVLP gun so it lays down properly. Once again the young guy would not really give me the time of day and the owner was there that day stepped in and took the time to look up the spec sheet so I would get solid information. In the meantime I heard the young guy on the phone helping a contractor and he took a lot of time and went out of his way to make sure he helped them so he could secure the contractor account. What I witnessed was the level of service between the average do-it-yourselfer vs. Contractor account was night and day. . . . Bottom line is this guy cost me a lot of extra time and aggravation having to redo parts of my project because of lack of information or just not willing to help me because I'm not spending enough money. By the way I have spent well over $350 at this place. But I guess if you're a contractor you should be good to go! I will now Drive 20 miles further to a different Benjamin Moore store just to get good honest customer service. Shame."
