"Some of the worst customer service I’ve experienced from a healthcare provider. My follow up appointment was cancelled due to insurance reasons (understandable), and I was left one voicemail. No one from the office actually made contact with me at any time. My confirmation for my appointment was still accepted. When I showed up for my appointment I was basically told “we don’t accept that insurance anymore, goodbye”. No follow up, no next steps. Will not be returning here."
"The front desk is so ridiculously rude that I am looking for a new gastro doctor. It's quite sad because Dr. Yosevitz is a great doctor. But having to battle with the front desk almost every time is simply not worth it. Two short examples - I recently got a phone call telling me a script had been refilled for me. While on the phone, the woman asked me something else entirely unrelated to gastroenterology. She asked me what type of hi p surgery I had (the medication they called in for me was nausea meds to help me stomach the medication I am supposed to take for that). After telling her, she proceeded to tell me that one of the ladies there had the same procedure and "it didn't work." I really don't understand why anyone would say this to anyone other than to discourage them. I proceeded to tell her that I was feeling optimistic about mine. She then interrupted me saying "oh noo it's just luck of the draw." It was clear she did not listen to my statement at all. I couldn't believe that she not only felt the need to say this, but also gave out information of someone there. I found it to be so very unprofessional and unkind. In another instance last year, I tried to make a telehealth appointment with a doctor over the phone. The receptionist told me that the doctor would like to see me in person and that I should come now (then). However, upon arriving, I saw a different receptionist who had no idea about my appointment, and proceeded to yell at me to get out after finding out I had a slight temperature (below 100 degrees). I had already let the people I spoke to know about this and they still told me to come. The fact that she not only did not know about that, but proceeded to act like it was my fault for having the "temp" was horribly unprofessional. You can ask someone to leave your office without making a scene, something this woman clearly did not know how to do as she continued to raise her voice at me once I was near the door exiting... I will be searching for a new gastro doctor simply because of the receptionist staff. I have been going there for years and out of that time, I've probably spoken to one kind receptionist. It's unfortunate, because while many things with reception can and should be overlooked, they demonstrate such a severe lack of ability to communicate respectfully towards patients. I see I am not the only one whose had a bad experience."
"After numerous calls to make an appointment, NOT once did their phone pick up, only recorded messages. Finally when it did, after several days & hours, the front desk lady was VERY rude. It got to a point where I got very uncomfortable & didn't want to continue our phone call. The next available appointment for a screen colonoscopy was end of May (when I called end Feb/beginning Mar)! Then after doing some research, I came across Dr. Keith Berger, with rave reviews. My OBGYN actually referred me to Dr. Berger over a year ago and I recall his office staff calling me to make an appointment but I put it off for foolish reasons. When I called, Dr. Berger's office was able to book me within that week! Best of all, it was on a Saturday! If you want to be treated like family, go to Dr. Keith Berger on First Colonial! I was treated with love, kindness, respect & with very clear instructions for my prep. They even provided me with Sutab so I didn't have to drink all that Miralax & Gatorade."
"I had an emergent swallowing issue, called as a new patient and was seen by Dr Hines within 30 minutes of my original call. The entire team from the front desk staff, intake, provider to the scheduling department, they were kind, professional and knowledgeable. Having been in healthcare for 30 plus years I would highly recommend this practice to family and friends. Thank you all!"
"Horrible experience with billing. There are multiple departments so if you have to deal with that, make sure you get the correct one. The lady apologized they did not notify me ahead of time that they were going to charge me for a procedure they added to my routine colonoscopy but would not help adjust the huge bill at all. Had to call several times over a month until I could start getting some information (each person I spoke to gave me different information at different times). Told them I was no longer anemic but that information does not get noted so they performed and billed an unnecessary procedure, and tried to perform another one after that. I will never go back and I recommend staying away from them. There are plenty of other facilities with better reviews. Against my own judgement I went with them because they were the only recommendation by my Sentara physician."
