Reviews of Cromwell House Apartments
"I can't rate this place low enough. My mother passed away unexpectedly in July. I called the office repeatedly about scheduling a time to clean out her apartment as I live several states away. They never called me back, but continued to let my mothers boyfriend A CONVICTED FELON who grifted his way into her life during her most vulnerable years, and who she said was not in the lease, live in my mother's apartment. As soon as she died, he went through all her personal papers and stole my social security number and tried to open a bunch of credit cards and bank accounts in my name. I had to file a police report and freeze my credit. Once again I repeatedly, at least 5 times called cromwell apartments to ask why this guy was still in my mom's apartment, and if they would schedule a time so I could come get our belongings, I needed to know when to take off work. They never responded so I contacted a lawyer. Then one day, her boyfriend, who was also a drug addict, dropped dead, still in my mom's apartment, riding on the scooter I bought for her. I get a call from a random lady, it turns out it was the convicted felons daughter, astoundingly, the apartment complex CALLED THIS RANDOM STRANGER and asked her if she wanted to come get the things out of the apartment. Thank God she has the decency to call me and ask me if I wanted my family photos, papers, and baby items. This boyfriend was not married to my mother and had 0 right to her positions. At this point I was very upset and angry. Heartbroken that I lost all my family's possessions too. This daughter, who hadn't talked to her father in 15 years, because because he stole her identity to, agreed to send me some stuff out of the apartment. An absolute Saint. She informed me that the apartment was infested with bed bugs and absolutely disgusting. I had written off ever getting the bulk of my mom's property -66 years of her life, little things she collected etc. I mourned and cried. Pondered suing the apartment complex but decided it wasn't worth the effort or money. When suddenly, this morning at 8am, nearly 4 months after my mother died some heartless demon called me and told me they had already, YET AGAIN, called this completely random stranger and asked her if she would like to help her self to my families heirlooms, and she had declined (due to the bed bugs) and if I wanted anything, I was free to come get it because they would be throwing it in the trash tomorrow morning. It's a 10 hour drive! Don't live here. Don't let your relatives live here. They are infested with bed bugs, and don't respect private property. They won't respect inheritance laws if some one dies, and any random person can just have at your possessions. They don't respect human decency either. I wonder how they would feel if this was there mother and their family heirlooms. I hope that God treats them as they deserve."
"I moved into Cromwell House in September of 2015. I am disabled and had no other place to go. Very little money to my name and I needed a roof over my head. A lot of adjustments on my part and none of them were easy. Sure it would be easy to dwell on the negative, but I'd rather not. My neighbors here are good people. More & more move in every day! As for the people who work here they are very efficient & professional employees. The women in the office are always so helpful and the entertainment director really keeps the fun activities rolling smoothly. The maintenance men are your best friends! They are quick to respond if you are in need of any repairs. 5 stars for them! As for TELCOM who provides the TV and internet, it was an adjustment coming from my home in Chesapeake & COX Communications but you can't knock $45.95 a month ! For TV service AND internet! When I had problem with reception of the channels I was promised, they sent workers from TELCOM to fix the problem. What a deal! I am so happy NOT to be with COX anymore. They really will rob you blind. Same service with them was over $100. They thrive on the fallacy that they hold a monopoly on the services they provide. It's truly difficult to achieve pest control in a building like this and I hate bugs as much as anyone else. So I have no problem with them coming into my apartment for the occasional extermination. Let me be honest. Yes, there were a few bugs in my apartment when I first moved in but those few bugs were taken care of toot sweet. It's comforting to know everyone has to abide by the rules also. With my own deeds I never have had a bug in my apartment again. Yes there is crime in Norfolk. That's true no matter where you live. No matter where! But the Norfolk Police Dept is one of the best I've seen in the 4 city's I lived in, in my life. The Fire Dept. also is the finest. I will say they are called here often. More often than any of the buildings around us. I'm not sure why that is. We do have pull cords in every bathroom & bedroom, in case of emergency. Coming from a disabled woman who falls A LOT, that is a comfort to my family as well. When the fire alarm goes off, it's comforting to know, they never hesitate. The response is always immediate. Minutes, in fact! They are literally around the corner. I do wish it weren't so often. The elevators shut down when the alarm goes off and since I have to have my walker on a really good day, or plain wheelchair, on BAD days and my electric wheelchair on my worst days, I have to stay in my room until help comes to me. I do find immense comfort in the fact, that if I fall in the shower, the pull cord is right next to the shower & all I have to do is pull it & the Fire Dept. will be right there! All in all, sure I would like to live in my own home but I cannot. Sure I would like to afford a bigger and better apartment, but I cannot. Cromwell House is fine for me. It's the best I can do with what I've got. Please know that if you're thinking about Cromwell House for a loved one, you are making a good decision."
"I moved to Cromwell Housing the year of 2013 and after residing there for a few days, I discovered that everything is simply filthy. A CON GAME, Management is really a JOKE. I asked for a Parking Sticker and the new so-called Property Manager asked for $25.00. Moreover, upon paying the rent, I gave her a money order for $20.00 too much and she refused to give me a receipt. My rating of the treatment that I have received is totally unacceptable and very EMBARRASSING, TO SAY THE LEAST. Maintenance entered my apartment without my presence and took some of my food. The apartment and grounds are simply deplorable. Bathtub rails were filthy with accumulated scum from the previous resident. Doorway threshhold, filthy, light fixtures, dirty, bottom of the oven, dirty, carpet unacceptable (they installed new strips around the carpet to give the appearance of new carpet installation (HA-HA), windows filthy. Praise God, I received a new toilet seat, Hallalulah Absolutely inadequate kitchen cabinets installed; absolutely limited closet space. JUST A PLAIN MESS AND POOR MANAGEMENT. PLease Lord Help Me' The Cromwell House Apartments should be condemned."
"Cromwell house has many problems, first and foremost it has a SEVERE bed bug infestation which has effected many residents here. They do the absolute minimum to keep the building livable, the laundry rooms, stairwells and elevators are usually filthy, are and maintenance while they genuinely do their best they are not given the proper tools or budget to fix things properly and instead have to resort to rigging things together and hoping for the best. There are roaches, I have only seen a few but I also keep things very clean. And lets not forget, someone was murdered here earlier this year. Overall, a terrible place to live."
