Reviews of Centra Lynchburg General Hospital Emergency Room
"I was impressed by this hospital in every way. I see a lot of complaints so I wasn’t expecting much but they got me in very quickly and it didn’t feel like they rushed anything. My doctors and nurses were super kind and knowledgeable. Dr Cook was good to me in a moment of need. There’s definitely good things and people happening at this place."
"This is nasty blood stains and trash all over the place. Been here since 9pm and it's almost midnight just waiting for an xray result. When we went back around 10 a dude with a bleeding foot was taken to the back because he foot started bleeding worse. And when I brought up the trash and blood to the gentleman at the desk he said well get someone on it. I informed the gentleman around 11. And it's still staring at me and the wife. This hospital needs a serious upgrade if this is the standard for the medical field. Burn it down and build something to accommodate your population. This place is a joke. I'd rather be back at the military bases with the military docs. They were faster and cleaner. Update: 1154pm cleaning crew came out and they refuse to pick up the trash and haven't cleaned the blood. Hope we don't get stds. I'll be suing if I end up with something."
"I’m sure if you are reading these reviews, you’re probably in a tight spot like my family was. I want to assure you that this is not the place you want to take your loved ones if you can at all help it. I’m sure so many ERs are understaffed and overwhelmed but this was by far the worst experience I’ve had at an ER. My father took his blood pressure before bed and it was the highest it’s ever been for him and we do what anyone would do and we googled what we should do. Every resource we found said it was high enough to warrant emergency medical attention. We were scared and low on options (admittedly, it was right before a holiday), so I took him here. It was basically a nightmare the second we got there. Patients with IVs were in the waiting room, I overheard people saying they were there for 6+ hours, the ER was packed (not necessarily their fault) and it took over an hour or two just to be triaged. At triage we didn’t speak to a doctor face to face, just over video, which is not necessarily wrong, but we just found concerning and odd. After triage we were sent back into the waiting room before being taken to a room, where we again waited several hours after being told a nurse would come in shortly. A nurse didn’t come to check in until another family member called me and I told them we were told a nurse would come in and they never showed, and I think they overheard me say this being a minute or so after I said it a nurse was in the room. The rooms and equipment was old and the environment was frankly scary and dirty. It was the middle of the night and we didn’t know where the light switch was to turn off the lights so he could rest, and we didn’t want to touch anything, turns out it’s the scary bright red switch on the wall (which i said earlier that can’t be the light switch because red anything in the hospital means emergency). You could hear nurses talking about personal things, one was on her phone discussing her holiday plans, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but the context of waiting as long as we did with no one checking in was just so frustrating. After all of that a doctor finally came, just over 7 or so hours after coming to the ER to say he wasn’t worried about how high it was and to follow up with his PCP, which is fine, but to be at the ER and to be told he was fine and discharged quickly was extremely frustrating when I wish we were told that quickly instead of thinking the worst for 7+ hours. It scary how slow things move here and what could have happened if it were something serious. If you can at all help it (it’s truly not an immediate life threatening situation) go to an urgent care or another hospital in VA, I promise you it’s probably worth the drive."
"I’ve never had a worse experience at any emergency room in my life. We waited 7 hours for the doctor to see us for a total of 60 seconds and then he said nothing was wrong and they gave absolutely no solutions. They were incredibly rude and answered every question I had with sass. I have never felt more invalidated in my life. When we asked if the doctor would come back to ask some questions he refused. Also, the person next to us cut her finger open and they made her wash it herself in a bucket that they also use for people who are barfing in the waiting room. Extremely disappointed, I will be driving to Roanoke the next time there’s an emergency."
"I was seen within an hour and a half. The staff are really kind, caring, and understanding. The nurses are the best! They took great care of me. They are very considerate and very much supportive. The Dr. was nice and helpful. He got right to work and created a treatment plan to help me get back to good health. The only complaint I would have, is the waiting time. Other than that, the staff there is truly amazing and wonderful! The place is also clean and neat. Everything is ship-shape and tidy. Great staff and a clean environment!"
