Dr. Danny A. Neal, MD

"“Danny” does accept Medicare (I think it’s required of him), BUT be prepared to wait about an hour - AFTER your appointment time passes - to be seen if you are covered by Medicare! This happened each time either I or my disabled husband showed up on time for a routine ear cleaning several years in a row. I believe he treats all his Medicare appointments this way, and the last time we were kept waiting, I learned why. That day, I had to take my husband to the restroom in back near his office. That’s how I found Danny apparently doing nothing as he sat in his office - while we were left waiting for him to be “free” to see my husband. He was not with a patient, not on his computer making notes, just sitting there. His door was open, so I asked him why he wasn’t taking care of my husband’s ears. This was back in 2022, and I was shocked to be informed by him that Medicare pays him so little to remove wax that Medicare patients cannot expect to be seen on time! He then got up and walked away, keeping my husband, a disabled, elderly vet with PD and dementia, waiting until (I suppose) he felt like my husband had been punished enough for being old and relying upon Medicare. If I had enough time, I’d report him to Medicare! I am a 24/7 caregiver, however, with no time. If you have been kept waiting a long time to see him each visit, as we always were, and you’re on Medicare or Medicaid, I hope you will report his unprofessional behavior. None of our other specialists who take Medicare keep us waiting more than 15 minutes. They are associated with UVA, RMH, or Augusta Health, however, which may make a difference in how they are compensated. Still, I’ve heard the other private doctors in H’burg do not mistreat their Medicare patients as Danny did us and others, according to the receptionist that day. I know he was hoping to discourage Medicare patients from choosing him as their ENT because he told me we could always see another doctor! He succeeded with both of us. You may want to choose another as well."

"I have no idea how this doctor has such high reviews. I took my two year old, who has reoccurring ear infections, into see Dr. Neal and it was not a positive experience. He was so unprofessional. The guy was so wacky, and not in a good way. He had no manners and completely dismissed everything I told him about my son. There is no way I would ever let this guy do anything to my kid. As soon as we walked out of the office I called a different ENT in Harrisonburg to set up an appointment. No way will my family be back."

"Very calm, relaxing, not rushed atmosphere. Kind and happy office staff. Dr Neal took time to get to know my daughter, and not only provided excellent advice for her ears/throat, but said many positive things to boost her self esteem. Kids need this more than ever these days. A great medical checkup + left feeling really happy and good about herself. Thank you!"
