Future plans include extended walking trails, gardens, an environmental education center, and additional public improvements like bridges and overlooks.
Thanks to the collaboration between the Wilcox Watershed Conservancy and the City of Petersburg, the trails at Legends Park are currently being rehabilitated. Reviews of Legends Park
"My oldest daughter and I were in town for a military graduation and decided to visit this park. We drove through the parking area and found a few vehicles randomly parked with people in them . Seemed very sketchy to me, but maybe it happens regularly there. Just seriously made me uncomfortable. Especially with all the trash everywhere. Piles of trash by the cans entering the park and trash blown in the edges of the woods from the parking lot. So we drove back to the main road and parked there. We walked the trails because I didn't want to let my daughter down. Very peaceful, lots of amazing confederate history and some very eye-opening history for my daughter. After reading about this park and how it was a swimming park, high dive, bath house and then later closed because the town refused to allow blacks to swim there. I'm sure it was the time in history that in some people's minds, it made sense. Maybe thwy closed it to prevent fighting between the races? But in all honesty, standing there in the peacefulness of the area, it truly makes you think what our nation has gone through. What our country did to itself, some people believe in tearing down history because it's offensive to some. I learned and felt so much from this park and the other parks we visited. I wish the park was cleaner, freshened up a bit, and finish boarding up the old bath house. Maybe paint it along with the homes on top of the hill. Keep the history alive, so more can see how ignorant people can be. Enjoy our pictures and Learn from history. The pure awe I felt while standing there, knowing why it was closed and who fought there was very overwhelming."
"Great park. Not crowded. I went there when it was 60 degrees and only saw one other person. I can't wait to explore this place more. My dog loved it too. Still love the quiet of this park. Haven't experienced it during the summer yet. Update: It's much prettier in the spring. I went there for the first time in weeks and it looks so different and green, I thought I was lost. Still quiet which is important to me and my dog. Another update: I forgot that some people aren't familiar this area. Great park, but I would never go after sun down. The latest I've been here is 4pm. I have never seen anything suspicious besides people staying in their cars in the parking lot. Go during the day and you might not see anyone."
"Great park! The pavilion is awesome. The bathrooms though are like most park bathrooms not the cleanest. The lake is great though if you want to catch some fish. There is a limit of 2 fish and you have to have your fishing license."
"Park provides a nice system of trails through the woods and along the lake accompanied with tunes of multiple songbirds. Nature is amazing and charming. However it could do with some restrooms, trash beans, and garbage collections. Parking could have also been organized better. There were also some stupid party nearby which has turned music that loud it was hardly comfortable to speak being a thousand feet far from them."
"Great hiking trail with some elevation that leads to north end of Wilcox Lake. However, parking lot needs cleaned up."
