"A great day hike with lots of loop options to add mileage. For the most part, you are either going up or down. A nice aerobic workout and the view from the top is worth it."
"Went hiking there yesterday and absolutely loved it. Fairly steep and challenging hike with decent signage. The trail start is located in a lovely, out-of-the-way park that offers beautiful mountain views, local history markers, and quiet trails. Navigation notes: AllTrails and Google maps did not offer directions to drive to the park because of an apparent road closure. Route 810, on which the park entrance is located, has recently been repaired and is open for all vehicles."
"Located on Rt 810 (Barrack Rd) about 30 min north of Charlottesville. The winding road through horse country is a delightful, beautiful drive. PAB Park is a 600-acre forest preserve that is well maintained for hikers, bikers, & equestrians. Several trails offer both gradual & strenuous accents to the top of Little Flat Mt. I decided to go CCW - Blue Ledge > Little Flat Mt Loop > To Exit. Going this way puts the hardest climb & rockiest at the front half. Once you past the summit, it's way smoother going down. (4.5+ miles R/T) For some I could see an out-and-back to the top going CW. Or an even longer hike via Crooked Tree Tr. During raining times the currently dried creek-crossings would be way fun. Poles are highly recommended."
"You feel like you're hiking in an expansive wilderness even though you're not too far from civilization. The parking is excellent for a spot that feels quite remote. Sensational facilities too for a place that's well off of the beaten path. Usually, you have nothing in terms of restrooms, etc in these locations. The hike itself was a slow and steady climb up but the grade was not too severe. Well maintained trails too."
"GPS dropped right outside the park, so keep an eye out for the sign (see pic). There are about 10 parking spots and covered toilets/latrine, though no running water or toilet paper. Trail is well marked with a few options (different elevations and distance). Little flat mountain is about 4.6m round-trip starting at the parking lot (2.5-3hrs). Some very steep inclines, bring decent shoes. Areas can get muddy/wet, may want to avoid during/after rain. Overall fun hike and area."
