Sunflower Parking Area
About the Business
Sunflower Parking Area, located at 18600 River Road in Poolesville, Maryland, is a part of the McKee-Beshers WMA. While the sunflowers are no longer in bloom, this 1,971 acre tract offers a variety of habitats for upland and forest wildlife species. Managed by the Wildlife and Heritage Service, the area includes wildlife food plots, warm and cool season grasses, and ongoing habitat restoration projects. Visitors can enjoy hiking and hunting on the property, as well as designated areas for dog training and field trials. Public access is permitted year-round for non-hunting activities. Funding for Maryland's wildlife programs, including the management of the WMA system, comes from hunting license fees and federal aid. The Department of Natural Resources is committed to conserving and enhancing the state's wildlife resources for future generations. Additionally, there are resources available for reporting fraud or abuse of state government resources.

"Was very beautiful. There is a decent amount of parking for a sunflower field. Didn't have any issues. Watch the dragonflies. 1 of them had an attitude problem. LOL."
"You can go for a walk but you will be stormed with every mosquito exist in the area. If you're going for Sun flowers They're not well maintained and you barely can see a few here and there. There are lot more corn than sunflowers."
"Nice spot to park and go for a walk to look at some wildlife. From July through August, you can see some beautiful sunflowers in the patches nearby."
"I would say 3.5 for my experience. The sunflowers are droopy now but I'm sure would have better before the all the rain and hurricane. Very very crowded, atleast today (Saturday) and difficult to park but it can be done."
