Doyles River Cabin

"Stayed here for 2 nights on July 4th because our dog is scared of fireworks. This is primitive cabin, but there is a creek that runs 300 ft from the cabin - you can filter water and don’t have to bring much. It had mattresses, blankets, kitchenware, even dish soap with sponges to wash dishes. Parking lot is about 9 minute walk from the cabin so we kept our food in the fridge in the car (it retained cold since we froze our meals and we got to have freshly cooked food every day). Trail is right where the creek is, so unfortunately we had few visitors wondering off of the trail and stopping by asking all about the cabin and ruining our privacy a bit (all were friendly though, but I wish there was warning sign asking not to trespass or smth). Other than that great stay, amazing views and would totally recommend."

"Nice primitive cabin. Well stocked and everything was expected. The trail down from skyline drive is steep, as is the trail down to the falls. Check with the PATC for rental. Skyline Drive was closed from Rockfish Gap to Mile 79 (Loft Mountain Wayside) when we visited and parking at Loft Mountain Wayside and walking the 1.5-2 miles down to the trailhead worked well for our group."

"A+ the cabin isn't "Closed " it's a PATC cabin available for rent. From said same org. If not being used the cabin itself is locked. You can picnic but if occupied, I suggest moving on and not bothering the occupants. Very cheap to rent, they are primitive, no electricity, no indoor plumbing. Water provided by a spring.. I HIGHLY suggest all the Primitive cabins PATC has to offer. All pertinent information is online. Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints."

"This is every hikers dream cabin. Completely stocked with everything you would need minus food and minimal lighting. We brought our 65 liter pack full which we found we didn't need but half of the supplies. Lovely porch with picnic table & cooking fireplace. Lots of cooking pans, utensils and dishes. We opened the windows until dusk. It was very warm the night we were there. The bunks would have been comfortable if it wasn't so hot that night with no breeze. We hope to come back next year in late summer or early fall."

"Our family had a great time staying in Doyles River Cabin. Cabin is equiped with pads for the bunks and several wool blankets are available to use. Pots, pans, plates, bowls, cups and utensils are all provided. We cooked in the fireplace on the porch for all our meals and used the little woodstove to keep the cabin cozy and dry on a cool rainy evening and night. We saw 4 different bear during our stay. They came very near the cabin! Beatiful place. Great way to disconnect from the busy world and reconnect with the family."
