Reviews of Coastal Counseling Center
"My son is seen here. There was an issue when our insurance changed, in name only. Literally all numbers are the same. Every policy number, member number, etc. They stated our policy was ended... But every time I called our carrier, it was fine so there was no action for me to take. They said all the numbers I had were the numbers to use so there was no reason Coastal shouldn't see active coverage. I verified this myself multiple times after Coastal told me we didn't have coverage. I even sent screenshots to that fact that we had an active policy. At no point did they apologize for not verifying, not following through correctly, or for incorrectly charging my card the entire $200 fee. When I explained to my insurance what I'd been told, what their "card on file" policy stated, I was told this was a violation of their contractual agreement with my carrier and that my carrier would follow through on my behalf. I was also told that, unfortunately, my insurance would NOT reimburse me as this was a covered service that was already paid for, so my only option was a refund with proof of such, and then having the insurance billed correctly. We all know refunds take longer than it takes them to take the money, so... I now have no confidence in the office staff. I have to decide if it's worth this happening again, or wait months to find someone else for my son. Because I have time for that after spending hours on this when it literally had nothing to do with something I did or didn't do. Our carrier changed its name. It's statewide at least, so shouldn't be a surprise / issue for a practice of any appreciable size. Mistakes happen. Don't repeatedly blame the patient, especially when your staff specifically stated there wasn't an issue with waiting for new cards and then you charge them the full $200 not even a week later. Professionalism goes a long way and communication in healthcare is CRUCIAL. If the staff had a miscommunication about the agreement or timeframe to wait for new cards (again, with all the same pertinent information as the insurance card on file...), you don't blame the patient. When it's repeated that charging the card on file was not the timeframe/policy as it was understood, it should be easy to point to the specifics in the policy, rather than "you signed it in your portal, so find it there." If a patient says, "I thought it meant this when I signed," then you reference the specifics and explain otherwise. PERIOD. You can't remove the card once you're in care, so now I'm stuck with giving them the option to charge me hundreds again under a policy they can't be bothered to explain. Not cool. Our therapist? Superb. But now we missed an appointment because I can't risk being charged again and it was another "too bad, and cancel everything until you either pay out of pocket or prove you have coverage that hasn't changed". It will be almost 2 months between appointments, assuming this actually even gets corrected in a timely fashion. Also not cool. Access to mental health is crucial. Creating needless barriers while instilling distrust in your system? Yikes."
"I love this place. The woman who work at the front office are freaking amazing. Me and my daughter both go there. My daughter had an issue at school one day and I called them to request the earliest appointment available for her, they asked if I could give them some time to see what they can do and that they’ll call me back soon. About 2 hours later they called and were able to see my daughter the next day! I go there for both therapy and med management, both the ladies I see (Ebony & Robin) listen and provide helpful and meaningful feed back. It was a tough road navigating mental health treatment and many wasted hours/days looking for the right fit for both me and my kid, I’m so thankful I found this place."
"Extremely displeased with the professionalism of this office..After being a patient for close to 3 years and I have always felt that I had a good rapport with my NP apparently not because I was terminated due to miscommunication with the office personnel. It was relayed to whomever that I was hostile and demanding I would have never spoken to anyone in that manner. However I feel completely jilted. In addition I never received a return a call from my therapist (Tannika Ball)because I was at a loss at the situation and what I could have possibly done to warrant this action..I realize staff are very busy and have a heavy workload .but yet the complete disregard leaves a lot to be desired..I certainly understand why people would be apprehensive to seek treatment when patients are treated in this manner..I also would like to add the front end staff always seemed so confused ,abrupt and rude for that matter and could never answer any questions clearly pertaining to billing policies and would automatically debit my account each visit and then some after telling them repeatedly that I would pay in a different form..I would never recommend this place to anyone. They are a disgrace to the mental health in this country.I find more class and compassion in my dish rags."
"I had a great counselor I was seeing, who I really appreciated. Unfortunately, he passed away. I found out because I called the office when my counselor missed our appointment. During my call, they rescheduled me with a new practitioner, Sam. Well, in the shock of finding out about my former practitioner, I forgot to write down the time of appointment and I missed it. Not that I didn't have my due diligence. I actually called the office the morning of to ask about the link (remote appointment) that I needed for the appointment, but didn't see the link come through via text (which they say they no longer do, soooo what am I to expect?) I tried to reschedule and Sam has a zero tolerance policy and will no longer take me on as a client. I genuinely respect that time is valuable, but I am a human and I make mistakes. I'm a new mom. I work full time and I'm currently single-parenting while my husband is gone for work. I guess Sam is a robot who never makes mistakes. Good thing he's a counselor."
"I made an appt with this center clearly stating what I was coming for when I made my appt. I needed to start taking my medication again to help me get back on track and I do not have insurance. When I was seen by the provider, I was told that they don't prescribe my medication to people my age! They should have told me that BEFORE I spent $250! I was prescribed a new medication that did nothing but make me feel horrible. I would nit recommend them at all."
