"Shelter itself and surrounding tent sites are like a 4-5 star, no real issues (tent sites could be better). Main issue: water is 0.3 miles away, okay.. but it's like straight down hill. It's not the end of the world, but definitely would have been good to know this."
"There is a really large dead tree in the tenting area. I'd be concerned about Widowmakers. Shelter is nice. Water carry is a little bit far though."
"Surrounding area around shelter had plentiful dry wood to place in the actual fire place. Only reason doesn't get 5 stars is because there's one in the smokies that has two fire places. And another in the smokies that has a bar like table. Those were by far my favorite AT shelters. But this one is up there."
"Bryd's Nest #3 is an awesome place to rest and spend the night. It faces West so you will have an amazing sunset. It also has a pretty new privy! For backpackers, that's a plus. :-) It also has a decent water source not far away. This shelter comes with a fireplace setting you up for a nice cozy evening as well to watch that sunset. Check it out and happy trails."
"Very unusual shelter - I understand it was converted from a picnic pavilion. Probably the only shelter in Shenandoah without a water source. If you are planning to spend a night there, make sure to bring water along. What's surprising, I found a water fountain nearby and some water pipes - all disconnected for some reason. Probably a reminder from picnic times."
