Reviews of Neuropsychiatric and Counseling Associates (NCA)
"Great staff. They do not sugarcoat anything, but are kind in doing so. They listen to help and my life is much better. I recommended my family members and they are completely satisfied with their treatment at this business."
"Wonderful mental health providers. I was greeted upon entering by a smiling, welcoming receptionist. The staff is friendly, caring and listens to provide proper service. My provider is very helpful to me. I feel the treatments I've received and talk therapy has helped me immensely."
"I have had good and not so good experiences with my psychiatrists through the years. This visit (my first since moving to VA) was such a pleasure. K. Criders was so straight forward with her questions and she actually listened to my answers. I am glad that I was able to find such a good practice."
"I scheduled an appointment with these folks, was told they would email paperwork, nothing else. Went to fill out my paperwork the night before the appointment and see in the attachment on the email they sent I needed to fill out paperwork 48 hours before the appointment. No one had said anything to me about it previously and I didn’t know until I opened the paperwork and it was too late. However it’s just paperwork and they had sent me a reminder that same day to still come to my appointment, so I sent the paperwork immediately after opening and showed up. My appointment was cancelled when I showed up. I’ve been struggling and really needed this appointment. I was in tears rescheduling because I really needed help. I called and sent an email afterwards and very, very politely expressed the distress my cancelled appointment caused and asked for better communication in the future. I specifically stated both times I’m not trying to upset anyone, I understand the job is difficult I was just hoping for even an “I’m sorry about that” and we’ll try to tell you in advance next time. Instead They cancelled my rescheduled appointment and declined to see me as a patient. Kelly at the front desk was intentionally cruel while I was expressing my concern in the nicest possible way. EDIT from the their response. This is my email that was "aggressive and abusive" - telling patients with mental illness that they are violent is a harmful stereotype and you should do better. In response to the email they sent cancelling my appointment an hour before...my phone call was similar. "You all need to send emails like this more than an hour and 15 minutes before an appointment. I had already left my house and the lack of communication from this Doctor's office is distressing. I hope that the communication around my next appointment goes better. You were sending me reminder emails yesterday telling me I still had my appointment. No one told me that I needed to have this filled out in advance, A note on an email attachment is not an acceptable way to communicate with patients about paperwork requirements for vital Psych appointments. It's hard enough navigating insurance and psych wait times when you don't feel well without adding poor communication from the Doctor on top of it. I would have been sure to have my paperwork in on time had I known. And additionally the front desk staff was unsympathetic and took no responsibility, didn't want to even apologize for the difficult position their lack of clarity put me in (even just an 'I'm sorry this happened' would have been nice). Sometimes we accidentally harm people, and then we should apologize - I learned that when I was six. I am not trying to upset anyone but cancelling this appointment has caused me a significant amount of distress and I just really hope to receive better treatment going forward. Simply notifying me at least 24 hours in advance when you are cancelling my appointment - the same courtesy you ask of me - is not that hard, You would charge me money for treating you the way you treated me today. It could have been entirely avoided if the person who scheduled my appointment simply told me that I needed to have the paperwork in 48 hours in advance, or said it in the body of the email. I am not asking for too much, just to be treated with respect and consideration for my time, at a moment when I'm struggling which is why I needed the appointment in the first place. I sincerely want to have a positive experience here and I'm hoping things can go more smoothly in the future. I understand your jobs are difficult and people are hard to deal with, but that doesn't mean you can't take accountability for when you fail to treat people with the proper respect and consideration, even if it's unintentional. I will see everyone next week" This is not remotely abusive, I was upset and I expressed it in a calm, rational manner what was bothering me. That isn't abuse that's just me being human"
"I called around to different places and I’m glad I went with this practice. They were very prompt in getting me scheduled for an appointment and they have very fair pricing specially with non-insured patients. Staff was friendly and personable. I met with NP Glenna Smith and all my concerns were addressed during my visit. She was thorough when answering my questions and made sure I didn’t leave with any questions."
