Reviews of Native Island Sailing
"My best friend gave me one of the best birthday presents ever! This magnificent vessel, such a beauty to see. A catamaran just gliding to the pier. Just a solar powered electric motor and sails. Smooth, quiet, gracious. The captain and crew, just two people handled this wonderful double-hulled craft. The afternoon was amazing. Sailing in the Chesapeake on a clear day with good friends, food, and music. I'm looking forward to more excursions with this compant!"
"Wow! First Mate Christine and Captain Brian made my first catamaran voyage fantastic! Together they are the consummate hosts and go above and beyond to ensure their guests are taken of and enjoyiing themselves. As a captain Brian has great boat-handling abilities and is a natural. I’m so glad my sister booked the trip. This is was an awesome experience that I won’t forget and can’t wait to do again!!"
"We had an absolute blast sailing with Christine and Brian. Booked the brunch cruise for a girls day, and it was perfect. It was so fun and relaxing being under sail. The team made everything easy for us. We really enjoyed swimming at secluded beach spot and came back on board to have our lunch plated and drinks refreshed. Everyone’s comment was “can we do this again next weekend??”"
"We had a great time on our private Afternoon Expedition this weekend! The boat was beautiful and set up really nicely. Christine and Bryan were very welcoming. Christine even took care of the photography for our trip so we could just relax and enjoy ourselves. We hadn't even gotten off the dock yet before our 3-year old son asked when we could go again!"
"My wife and I were in the Norfolk/Williamsburg area during her birthday weekend, and we wanted a special sunset cruise and we happened to find Native Island Sailing. They had just recently started chartering this wonderful catamaran, so didn't have a bunch of reviews, but we took the chance, and couldn't have been happier. Captain Bryan and Firstmate Christine were amazing. They were responsive on email ahead of our sailing day and kept in touch on the day as there was a lot of bad weather in the area and we needed to know if the trip would happen. I assume they will correct me if I have anything wrong, but it's an Eco Catamaran, and they do it as eco-friendly as possible. The catamaran is 38-ft long and has no gasoline and no electric plug, it has electric power where energy stored from solar cells, or it runs on good old fashioned wind power. We loved this and for the times we did run under electric engines, it was still so quiet and peaceful. We did a sunset cruise, and they took us out for 2.5 hours on the Chesapeake. We were allowed to bring our own food and drinks (no red wine) and they served it for us either on the front of the boat or at a table in the main under cover. They gave us the option of taking time to come into a shallow area near a beach and swimming off the boat which we took, and it was amazing. The water was shallow enough to stand up or they allowed us to go on floats which were tied off. While we were anchored and swimming, they flew a drone around to get pictures which they shared and that is a wonderful extra touch. They also allowed us to control music via bluetooth connection to a speaker they had. The sunset was so beautiful and peaceful, Bryan and Christine were amazing and attentive and friendly and nice to chat with but they didn't intrude if we wanted quiet and peace. We had a wonderful time and we would definitely do it again, which we did the next night as they had space on their cruise the next night (probably because the weather was very "iffy"). The water was very choppy at first on the 2nd night, but it was just as enjoyable as now it was more a wild ride for a bit (We knew it was going to be that was as it stormed shortly before we went) but it settled down and was just as fun (but different) as the prior trip. So this catamaran cruise was slightly more expensive than some other options such as the schooners or other dinner river cruises, but we feel it was an incredible value and absolutely worth it. They only take out up to 6 people, they allow you to bring your own food and drink, the trip events are adjustable somewhat based on who is on the boat and what the group wants to do. It's just much more personal and we hope they do well with this venture."
