"DO NOT MOVE HERE!!! This place has turned into the ghetto/projects/public housing! It used to be a nice place but Bernstein no longer cares about this building and has been neglecting it and letting anybody move in! It’s noisy as hell inside and outside, it’s no longer cleaned or maintained, there’s break ins, violence, drug addicts, and squatters in the building. And management does absolutely nothing! They ignore all inquiries, requests, and complaints. I’m not even sure why they’re there! Do yourself a favor and find somewhere better to live because this ain’t it!"

"Avoid this place if you can. Management will not address your concerns. You will be lucky to even get a response. I have lived at this building since April 2020 and the management has gotten downright terrible. RODENTS IN THE TOWNHOUSES. I and neighbors have had issues with mice coming into the townhouse part of the building. They will not answer a maintenance request but if you talk to the leasing office staff (when someone is actually there) they will promise to contact pest control and have them come on a regular schedule. The first time the pest control person pointed out several holes that maintenance needs to patch…it’s been several months and the holes are still there. You have to talk to the front desk every time to get pest control to come out. YOUR PACKAGES WILL BE STOLEN. There is a locked package room that has been broken into many times. Not uncommon to find multiple packages ripped open in the room. PAINT OVER WATER DAMAGE LIKELY MOLD. Water was pouring from our ceiling several months ago after a heavy rain. They brought in a paint crew to touch-up the wall. You can already see the water damage starting to build again as they didn’t actually fix the leak. DO NOT PAY FOR OUTSIDE PARKING. People will park in your spot and then have the audacity to tell you they don’t pay and don’t have to. Management won’t do anything about it so I guess they can park for free and you’re the sucker who paid for it."

"There was a short time that this building offered all of the amenities listed on the site. However, that has since changed, and the management of this building should be ashamed! Firstly, who wants to come home feeling uneasy? No one. Yet, somehow we constantly have to deal with homeless individuals, squatters, break-ins, and theft! When you inform the so-called “management” of these outlandish instances, little is done to resolve the issue, and that's if you're lucky enough to get ahold of someone; who will provide and express the bare minimum of professionalism, empathy, and accountability. If there were a way to give this building zero stars, I would not hesitate. Enough is enough."

"Literally no one in the leasing office. I've never been to a building where the leasing office is always empty. How is anyone supposed to enter the building to talk to anyone if the office is always closed??? The guy that works at the front sometimes just sits there with earphones on and ignores the front door. I stood out there for 30 minutes one time, and if the sun is too bright you can't see the call log thing to call and buzz you in. There are also homeless people living In the building in various spaces. Not a very safe or productive space to live."

"My boyfriend and I have been living at 1600 Penn for a year and at first we really liked it. I want to echo the reviews that mention how great Byron was and how helpful Robbie is with maintenance. However, since Byron left, the leasing/management office has been a revolving door of different Bernstein employees that do not care about addressing issues tenants are having. Bernstein employees are generally friendly when we raise our concerns, but never take any action. For example, we have been dealing with a cockroach problem in our apartment since March 2022 and Bernstein has been absolutely useless. Even though the building contracts with a pest company, management is rarely around on Fridays to let pest control into the building and does nothing to get to the root of the problem given that our apartment is not the source of the cockroaches . We’ve also run into an issue with our rent, because the person that was working in the office when we submitted renewal paperwork abruptly left the company and never updated our lease agreement. Since then, tracking down someone at Bernstein that can address this problem has been a nightmare. Had we known that these issues would be such a hassle and so prolonged, we never would have renewed our lease. If you have absolutely no problems while you are in the building, it is a decent place to live for a relatively affordable price, but the minute you have an issue, this place becomes a nightmare. I would also like to reiterate the issues brought up in Keena Harris’ review. The fire alarm has been pulled (apparently by teenagers messing around on the roof) a number of times over the last year, and there has been damage to locked rooms (storage, bike, utility rooms), damage to rooftop furniture, as well as bike thefts. It’s a city, some of these problems come with the territory. However, management could do so much more to help and they do not take any meaningful action. If you can afford to live somewhere else, I would recommend it."
