Reviews of Cavalier Club
"SMOKING INSIDE IS PERMITTED I've lived here for over a year and really wanted to call this place a permanent home. And generally, I like the place-free and ample parking and big units but lately I can't get past the lack of respectful neighbors and management's refusal to do anything. SMOKING is permitted but it is obviously not openly advertised. It is smoke-friendly because it doesn't say otherwise. A naive mistake on my end. My neighbors who moved in after me chain smoke and live in a unit without a balcony. The smoke comes through the VENTS and when I open my KITCHEN CABINETS, the smell of cigarette smoke is there. It's gross. I have to leave my windows open and then can't turn on the heat because it makes the smell worse. I'm living in a freezer right now-it's miserable. Management told me originally they could warn the neighbors on the grounds that they were bothering another tenant- smoking stopped for months and then new management came in and the smoking inside started back up. They said there was NOTHING they could do except move but rent prices could go up and suggested getting a humidifier. This is despite there being a clause in the lease that says: "Lessee shall not make or permit to be made any disturbing noises or do or permit any act which will unreasonably interfere with the rights, comforts or convenience of other Lessees or employees of Lessor." The lease also states that smoking isn't allowed in common areas and yet the hallway routinely smells like cigarette smoke. Find another place to live. :("
"I received a steep rent increase this year from the management company, Southern Management, of 9% for a one-year lease. In the past, rent increases were reasonable at around 3%. The management company plans to charge monthly utilities when my lease renews as well. When asked how much the utility fee will be I am told it depends on many factors, but could be as high as $90 per month or more. This apartment is not affordable to me now with the big rent increase and with the new utility fee I will have to move. The high rent increase does not seem justified since Cavalier is not a luxury apartment complex in a high-end neighborhood. Air conditioning is only available from May to the first few weeks of October and apartments do not have in apartment washer dryers. Both of these are features of more high-end apartments. The neighborhood is noisy with sirens from Wilson Boulevard sometimes daily and nightly, and there is a store nearby where men congregate to drink beer and other activities and the police are called there nearly every week. I did enjoy living here over many years, but since 2019 there have been many changes and it is time for me to find another apartment that is affordable and where I feel safe. There have been ongoing problems with the air conditioning breaking down since 2020 and repairs are made but the system keeps breaking down. Sometimes there is little or no notice about work projects that impact residents. When residents ask for clarification the staff can be unavailable (sometimes the office is not open until 11:00 am during the week), they sometimes don't return emails, phone calls go to voice mail, or they act stressed at being asked too many questions. I spoke to Southern Management resident relations and they said I could have improvements to my apartment, but when I checked further I was told I would have to pay for the improvements plus be inconvenienced while work was being done. One positive that remains about Cavalier Club is the excellent maintenance team. There used to be three on staff but they cut back to two in 2020. The men are both excellent and courteous and try hard to quickly resolve any issues that need to be fixed. June 22, 2022 update - one of the excellent men on the maintenance team just resigned, so only one is left and we've been asked to hold off on maintenance requests. Also, as of June 22, 2022, there is no lifeguard available so we have not been able to use the swimming pool for nearly a month."
"I've enjoyed living at Cavalier Club apartments for three years. I was looking for a quiet place with some natural beauty around it. There seems to be good insulation between the apartments and the floors so I am not bothered by hearing people above or beside me. The complex itself stands on some well-kept grounds with beautiful flowering trees and bushes. There are garden plots along a back section for any residents who want to cultivate them. There is also a pool and tennis court. Also, for hikers and bikers, the W&OD trail entrance is right down the street. The maintenance staff is especially friendly and helpful; any issues I've had have always been resolved promptly. The location is set back from traffic yet there is a large shopping area within walking distance and one can quickly access the major highways, Rt 50, 66, 7, and 495 as well as the East Falls Church Metro station. I feel lucky to have found this place and highly recommend it!"
"I lived at Cavalier Club for a little less than 2 years. I really loved staying here and this place will always be very close to my heart. The apartments are really nice and spacious. The building is well maintained and everything is well monitored by the management. The people in the leasing office are very welcoming and I enjoyed talking to each one of them. In terms of accessibility to public transport, they have a bus stop right in front of the complex which had frequent buses that will take you to the closest Metro station. Would highly recommend checking this place out if you are looking for a complete place to live around McClean/Tysons Corner or in the DC metro area."
"I've lived here for over a year now and everything has been great. No problems with the management and maintenance comes very quickly when needed. The price is very reasonable compared to others in the area that are within a mile of East Falls metro. The apartment itself is homey and I can't think of anything negative to say about it. I enjoy the amenities such as the pool, tennis courts, garden area, free parking, and hair salon/dentist. This area feels safe and everyone is friendly enough. I would recommend this apartment complex to anyone who works in DC and needs to metro in or to anyone who drives to the MD/VA area. Also, in response to negative reviews regarding the leasing office, they are typically very friendly and helpful whenever i need something. I haven't run into any issues or specific problems mentioned in other negative reviews."
