Reviews of The Citizen at Shirlington Village
"The apartment complex itself is nice, amazing location and amenities. Even though the gym is out of service for now (not the apartments fault.) The mailroom is bad! The mailboxes are broken and you have access to everyone’s mail. The courtyards are nice but not taken care of, the lights are mostly broken throughout the complex so it’s hard to see at night in the courtyard areas. The move in process and state of the apartment however were horrid. First off we were told the apartment was ready at the beginning of November and signed paperwork to move in at that time. I was subsequently called and told we could not move in until thanksgiving. This was after already setting up movers and equipment. After going back and forth for a bit Tasha, a temporary manager spoke with me and explained everything and made me feel better about the situation. Now for the move in, the apartment was renovated prior to us moving in and they did a poor job. Sure the countertops, floor (sort of) and carpets were nice. However, portions of the walls were completely missed with paint and it looked like water damage in the bathroom on one of the walls. They left the master closet undone with no shelf or hanging rods. The storage closet for the apartment was full of construction trash and the plywood walls were broken giving access to the neighbors storage. The kitchen sink had screws and a razor blade in the garbage disposal and the new carpet with littered with screws. Whoever they use as a contractor for renovations is ripping this place off. After all that, I still say the apartments are one of the better I’ve seen, but they use the cheapest everything and patch everything vs actually fixing it. They need to step up with maintenance."
"This place deserves 0 starts. Don’t ever move in here if you want to live in a clean, well managed place. There are two nice ladies on the management team and that’s about it. Our neighbors upstairs are constantly loud and wake up my 2 year old daughter throughout the night. They drop their cigarettes on our balcony along with hey and other stuff. My husband and I sent pictures and videos with the noise to the management team and they don’t care at all. All they said was, “I’m sorry about that.” They took their side because they are flight attendants and work odd hours but that’s no excuse because my husband and I are both military cops and we’re not loud like that at all. The apartments are built so badly, it’s disgusting, if you want to live in peace do not move in here. That’s not all, the elevators constantly do not work, the package room is always left open for random people to come off the street and steal your packages, we constantly have police at our next door neighbors. Everything is so unorganized and unprofessional here. I don’t know what else to do so I’m posting this for everyone to know not to move in here. It’s the opposite of luxury."
"My review is for Walter Cornejo and the maintenance crew. Walter is an amazing leasing manager and always tries to please everyone despite a lot of things being out of his control. He’s quick to respond to emails, and has even come up to look at an issue in our unit himself, despite it being after 5 (on a day they close at 5). As far as maintenance goes, George was great and always such a pleasure to have come work on issues in our unit. Now, Jerry has replaced George and he is equally as helpful. We really appreciate the swiftness in which our work orders get acknowledged and resolved. There are some negatives about living here overall, but I’m sure every apartment complex deals with that. For the location and price, we really are happy here."
"I swear to God, it’s not a filter or a soccer field. This is our swimming pool in our disgusting place. The level of disrespect the management has to its own tenants is astounding. Stay away from this apartment, you will thank me later."
"I know this is a long review.. but here is a brief summary: 1. lack of organization when moved in 2. Packages Stolen 3. Car Stolen 4. Garage and side door broken 4. Police with guns right in front of our apartment door. Please keep in mind we've been here for 3 months. I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration with the way the recent incidents at the apartment complex " The Citizen at Shirlington" have been handled. While I had hoped to refrain from making negative comments, the lack of appropriate response and empathy has compelled me to bring these issues to the publics attention. From the very beginning, our move-in experience was far from satisfactory. The front office staff was unprepared, the final walk-through was neglected, and we were asked to wait an additional 45 minutes for the apartment to be ready. The lack of professionalism was evident, and it set the tone for our subsequent experiences. As time passed, more concerning situations arose. The most distressing event was the police raid that occurred right next door to our apartment. I fully understand that the actions of other tenants are beyond your control. However, I believe it would have been appropriate for the management to acknowledge the incident and demonstrate empathy by sending out an email to the surrounding apartments. The proximity of the raid to our apartment, the presence of armed officers, and the potential risk to our safety were deeply unsettling. A simple gesture of acknowledgement and support from the management would have gone a long way in alleviating our concerns. Additionally, there have been issues with stolen packages, which I will not go into further as it appears there is no resolution in sight. However, the most significant issue that I must address is the theft of our vehicle from the supposedly "secured" garage. It has become evident that the garage door is broken due to an accident that occurred last year when someone hit it , and the apartment just ignored the these security measures. When you move in they tell you this is because of construction.. but that is a lie. This leaves the garage accessible to anyone from the street, completely undermining the purpose of paying $135/month for parking. Our trust has been shattered, and the lack of security measures is unacceptable. When we reported the stolen vehicle to the front office... Walter, his response lacked empathy and understanding. He insinuated that the car has been towed, despite us explaining evident signs of forced entry and extensive damage. The complete lack of concern from the front office staff is disheartening and speaks to a disregard for the well-being of residents. Now, five days after the incident, we have yet to make any significant progress in resolving the matter. This lack of urgency and response is truly unacceptable leaving us feeling unheard and unsupported. We even mentioned that the thieves stole our garage door opener, and will likely repeat their actions in the future even after the garage door is fixed. Our decision to remain in this community is only because the area is beautiful and close to our jobs but, with the current state of affairs it is not worth the stress this apartment causes. I will try my best to give updates on the situation."
