Reviews of Sentara Comprehensive Pain Management Center
"I wouldn't even give this one Star. If you have chronic pain that keeps you unable to do daily life activities without having this pain eating at you in the back of your mind constantly, do not go here. The admin and nursing staff were nice enough. So was Dr George Lin. He was...pleasant, but you quickly feel as though you're just another faceless patient, a number on a sheet, a nice bill. My appointments were spaced four to six months apart. As I'm reading the office notes from my records printout (I'm going to another pain management place and needed the records), I see that on the notes it says that my last appointment, 12/30/20, says to return on 4/30/21. This is a lie. I was told to make an appointment for June, so I did for 6/09/21. It also says to contact him if my symptoms worsen or fail to improve. I was never told this in our appointment, so this is also a lie. On my first appointment, 8/25/20, it says to return on 11/25/20. I was told to return at the end of December. Another lie. Again, contact him if my simpsons worsen or fail to improve. This was not told to me. Another lie. I already knew I had a herniated disc at L4-5 from a previous injury in 2012. I received my MRI results a day after my MRI via the Sentara app, and it turns out I have two more bulging discs at L2-3 and L3-4 with an annular tear at L3-4. I was never contacted by his office to go over the test results. I had to Google what an annular tear is to figure out what this new issue is. Basically, I'm in a lot of freaking pain. I get maybe 4 hours of sleep a night before I wake up with horrible slicing pain across my lower back and around my hips. Sometimes, it runs down my right buttock and down to my right knee. I cannot put even the slightest finger pressure on my lower spine without sharp pain. I live every day in hell with this pain. If you're like this, then this is definitely not the doctor for you. Minor injuries or acute pain, sure. But lifestyle changing pain, definitely not because you are not a person here. You are just words and numbers on a chart."
"My experience was wonderful. The receptionist made me feel welcome. The waiting area was clean and the wait times were minimal. The nurses in the back seem happy to be there and were helpful. The doctor I saw was professional and made me laugh. He was patient with me to help me understand what his thoughts were on my condition and what possible options are available."
"Dr george Lin was the most passive doctor i have ever encountered. He didnt care to acknowledge my pain or what he had already prescribed and when i went to explain this he gave me a look of shock. He asked me " what i wanted" i told him hes the doctor. Spoke with his manager a very nice gentleman. He should be the doctor. Beware people. Choose wisely"
"Terrible experience. I 1st saw Dr. Lin who was very informed of my condition but only gave me pamphlet with exercises, offered me drugs but no lasting solutions. Said I could do injections which would take 2-weeks to schedule. Called to schedule and the 1st appointment was 2 - Months away. If you are in serious pain, this IS NOT the place to go. I will never use a Sentara run practice again as it was a complete waist of time and they only care about milking your insurance."
"Very disappointed with this facility. First, everyone involved was very nice, professional and seemed to know their jobs very well. The problem was with billing. I was seen for an eval and scheduled for spinal injections to hopefully relieve my back and leg pains. I asked at that time, what my cost share would be. I was told they would submit the paperwork to the insurance company and they would let me know before the procedure. They also suggested I could call Sentara billing for an answer. Well I call Sentara billing and first they can't even find the procedure code. Then they give me an estimate of several thousands of dollars (for a similar code). So I asked what my cost share would be; they don't know. I'm told I need to call my insurance company for that information. I call the insurance company and they say they can't provide an estimate unless the provider submits a pre-authorization request. A request the provider told me they were already submitting, so I figure I'll just want and see. Well a few days before the procedure, I get a call to confirm the appointment. I asked about the cost share. They tell me, a pre-approval wasn't needed so they did not submit one to the insurance company and they don't know what my cost share will be. So I tell them if I can't get at least a reasonable estimate of the cost share I need to cancel the appointment. No attempt as resolution, appointment canceled. Completely unacceptable. Who thinks it's reasonable for a customer to enter into a transaction without knowing at least an estimated price? It could be $41 or $4100. Big difference and Sentara should know better."
